 Christmas Tree Lane in Alameda  Since 1938, residents of the 3200 block of Thompson Avenue have been transforming their quiet East End street into a brightly lighted wonderland. At some point the street became known as “Christmas Tree Lane,” with thousands of people from all over the Bay Area coming to see the block's elaborately decorated homes and yard displays.  The Christmas Tree Lane tradition began during the Depression when two families of cousins who lived on the block decided to string lights from their homes to the then-small trees on the avenue’s median strip. They decorated the trees with handmade ornaments and displayed their own Christmas trees in their windows.  Alameda Point Antiques Faire on November 6, 2016  There are lots of things to do in Alameda.  But one of the most popular event is held on the first Sunday of every month, the Alameda Point Antiques Faire at the old Naval Air Base, now called Alameda Point.  The Antiques Faire is the largest antiques show in Northern California with over 800 dealers.  Woody Minor Presents Bungalow Courts of the Island City  The Alameda Architectural Preservation Society is sponsoring Woody Minor’s discussion about Bungalow Courts in Alameda on Sunday, October 23 at 7:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1420 Lafayette Street in Alameda.    Bungalow Courts were built in Alameda shortly after the post earthquake boom in population here.  The bungalow courts consisted of cottages around a private drive.  The increased demand for housing and the rise in property values resulted in a new type of development.  Pasadena was the birthplace of bungalow courts in California.  The first bungalows appeared in Alameda in 1910 and were double courts with side by side groups of eight cottage facing a central walk.  Bungalow courts were built in and around Neptun... 10/21/2016

 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training 2016   Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training in 2016 begins on Wednesday, September 28.  The program provides free training to Alameda residents and people who work in Alameda so they may learn to be self-sufficient in a disaster.  Alameda Legacy Home Tour  Fabulous homes are on the agenda for the Alameda Legacy Home Tour on Sunday, September 25 in Alameda.  The six homes and the Home of Truth spiritial center were built between 1879 and 1910 and represent a variety of architectural styles. The Alameda Architectural Preservation Society and the Alameda Museum co-host the tour each year.    The homes were built or designed by noted Alameda architects such as Joseph A. Leonard, Alfred W. Pattiani, O’Brien and Werner and Bert E.
