Kos and Dennis Evanosky on Tuesday, December 2 at 7:00 pm at the Alameda Free Library, West End branch at 788 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda. ALAMEDA'S NEPTUNE BEACH Eric Kos and Dennis Evanosky are local historian and publishers of the Alameda Sun. Eric and Dennis’ historical presentation are always fun because they include interesting and entertaining facts about their subjects. We Alamedans know about Neptune Beach, but most of us don’t know that there were ten other baths, including Newport, Terrace and Long Branch on the Alameda’s south shore. Friends of Crown Beach in Alameda, Part I Friends of Crown Beach in Alameda was formed to prevent the City of Alameda from continuing with the proposed development of 95 residential units next to Crab Cove in Alameda. Since the City of Alameda has not responded to the Friends pleas to preserve the “Neptune Point” site from development they feel they have no choice but to try to qualify a ballot measure for the November ballot to rezoning the property to open space. The land was originally owned by the federal government which in 2006 determined that was no longer a need for the 3.89 acre parcel. In 2008 City of Alameda voters passed measure WW approving funds for the acquisition of the site. The site was thought to be perfect for expanding the park, adding additional picnic...

Volunteer at the Alameda Food Bank Its late November and I decided to scheduled a date to volunteer at the Alameda Food Bank. What a great organization the Alameda Food Bank is. The volunteers are such a caring bunch who come to work hard organizing and distributing food for Food Bank clients. Most of the volunteers come weekly to work for the day. They are all very efficient and know their tasks which they tackle quickly. VOLUNTEERS SEPARATING FOOD DONATIONS I arrived with 3 bags full of food and a turkey, ready to help. Since I was a newbie I got the glamorous job of separating donated food from Trader Joes. Each type of food has its own bin making it easier to fill food bags for food bank clients. People kept coming by with their donations of canned goods, fruits, veg...
