The Olympic torch will make its way through the community on Monday afternoon as part of the flame’s journey to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler. Recreation director MacDonald said the torch relay will be a unique opportunity for spectators and participants. “This is a once in a lifetime thing for the municipality,” he said. He added that this year’s games will hold a special significance in Summerland. “Our community is a small community with two members on the Olympic team,” he said. Justin Kripps is expected to compete in bobsleigh while Kristi Richards, who took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics, is expected to compete in freestyle skiing.
