This year's Arizona monsoon season has been very wet. This can create a situation for mosquito breeding grounds. The worry about this issue is that mosquito breeding grounds are subject to West Nile Virus. As a precaution, the local schools in Apache Junction Unified School District including Apache Junction and Gold Canyon, are all having their grounds checked for standing water. Also all the facilities will be fogged beginning Saturday August 4th and Saturday August 11th. After that, fogging will be done every other Saturday through November. School officials feel this is in the best interest of the children and has been recommended by public health officials. Officials are also recommending to parents that they use a mosquito repellent containing DEET on their children before they le...

School has begun for the fall and this means drivers need to be extra careful of students crossing near schools and athletic fields and of children playing nearby the schools. School zones are 15 mile speed limit areas. These zones are also "zero tolerance" meaning that drivers can receive a ticket if they go even 16 miles an hour. Passing in these zones is not permitted. If a person is in the crosswalk in these zones, they must be completely out of the crosswalk before a driver can proceed in either direction. Police officer enforcement near schools will be stepped up for the first few weeks of school, but will also be checked throughout the school year on a random basis. Drive safe and keep the kids safe.

The Apache Junction Unified School District will be going to voters for a 2nd time in November asking that a budget over-ride be renewed. This measure was defeated in May and it's going back on the ballot in hopes that teachers and parents will go out and vote to support the renewal. If the measure fails, the programs and services that the Override has allowed the school district to have will need to be phased out over the next couple of years. The District has been using an Override since 1999. Failure to pass will mean that class sizes will increase. It is anticipated that there could end up being 35 children per classroom if the measure fails. Also at stake are programs such as arts and athletic, plus after school programs. Teachers would also have to become their own janitors as cus...

The 2007-2008 school year is exciting for students and faculty of Four Peaks Elementary School. An entire new facility replaces the adjacent old campus that served the district for more than 30 years. The new facility is located just north of the old school buildings. The new school has a modern layout of several desert colored buildings arranged around a central courtyard with an amphitheater. The buildings are free standing and will host similar age levels. Kindergarten students are located in the school office building to optimize supervision. There is an up to date technological infrastructure. The design is based on the successful design of Peralta Trails Elementary School ~ a design that has proven to be highly popular and successful for the district. Approximately 750 students fr...

Recently I have been focusing more time and energy to my website, www.realestatewithjody.com.  I realize that approximately 80% of buyers are looking online first, and that we all need to have our websites in top notch form.  I recently added a market snapshot from Top Marketer, through Top Producer.  This is a great tool for market analysis for your listing clients and also for buyers.  It is a sharp tool with great information and maps and very user friendly.  I also have added a mortgage calculator to the front page as well.  Also, a very important tool with the changing market.  Of course I have the active rain on there :)))))  I also have put more local information in about Gold Canyon.  There is a virtual tour of Gold Canyon that really lets you see all of our town and the many gr...

While reading "The News" the other day, I came across an interesting article.  Don Eyermann, the manufacturer of this home has broken ground already to start this project.  He will be building energy efficient homes or "zero-energy" homes in Apache Junction  located on the corner of Tomahawk Rd & Lost Dutchman Blvd, named the Superstition Mountain Estates.  The manufacturers concept to make this home zero energy is by upgrading the homes design to also include solar panels and a heating & cooling system that is very unique.  The system will consist of tubes into the home that water will run through in the roof, underground and back into the roof, transferring cool underground temperatures in the house with a potential to have the home at 70 degrees.  These homes may sell for anywhere ar...

Unique 3.75 acre horse property located close to the Superstition Mountains.  Very near state land.  It is possible to split up the land into 3 separate parcels.  Currently on 1 parcel is a 2 bedroom/1/75 bath manufactured home with 2 separate buildings, being a workshop and the other a saloon like right out of the movies.  Lots of possibilities with this area and land.

Despite the bubbleheads predictions of the impending collapse of the real estate market in the known universe, real estate growth transactions continue to happen.Desert Communities, Inc (an affiliate of Vegas based Rhodes Homes) just plunked down 58 million bucks for 1,010 acres in the Southeast Phoenix Valley. That seems like a lot of land, and a lot of coin. And it's not chicken feed. But what's more impressive is this is truly just the tip of the iceberg. This part of the Phoenix Valley (between Apache Junction and Florence, AZ) is but a small part of 275 square miles of state land -- and it's ripe for development.Estimates for this 10 billion dollar hunk of land (yes, that's billion with a "b") is that it will eventually be the home of 1,000,000 people. (yes, that's one million peopl...
