Habitat for Humanity, the worldwide organization that works to provide housing for low-income families has supported a project in Apache Junction Arizona. On Sept 22, 2007, a home on Mockingbird Lane and Ironwood Trails was completed for Jose Cobian. The mayor of Apache Junction and local Gold Canyon officials welcomed Mr Cobain and his family into the home. The worry is that home prices in Arizona have escalated to the point where low income families have been pushed out of the possibility of being in a home.  The organization says it hopes to provide additional homes in the area as possible. To read more about Habitat for Humanity check out their website.

Apache Junction Arizona's Grand Hotel that has been the home to movie stars such as Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, and President Ronald Regan, back when he was an actor, has been demolished. Back "in the day" , (1960s) when these famous stars were on location in Arizona filming westerns at the nearby Apacheland Movie Ranch, they would stay at the Grand Hotel. "In the day" the Grand Hotel was considered a very posh facility, and boasted sir conditioning in all its rooms! However over the years, as the popularity of western movies faded, stars no longer were coming to the Arizona desert to produce westerns, and the Grand Hotel began to fade along with the western films. Over time the hotel became home to local Apache Junction businesses, long term renters, and a restaurant. Plan...

I just read the article on developer Jim Rhodes in the East Valley Tribune (http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/95420). What is disturbing to me and I am sure many other citizens in Pinal County, is how could the State Land Department have let this guy buy this land knowing all the problems he is bringing with him. According to the article, written by Mark Flatten of the Tribune, Mr. Rhodes has many questionable business practices and associations with people that are now convicted felons in the State of Nevada for bribery, namely a Commissioner on his payroll. This sounds like trouble from the get go. We have all been excited and want progress in this area of Pinal County. We have planned for it and waited for this jewel in the desert to begin. Now, after reading this article and see...
