Victor Khrisanfovich Kandinsky was born in Siberia into a wealthy family.  He graduated from Moscow Imperial University Medical School in 1872.  After graduation he worked as a general practitioner in one of the hospitals in Moscow.  In 1877, he was a military physician in the Balkans during the Russo-Turkish War.During that same year he began experiencing mood swings and hallucinations.  He was medically discharged and admitted to a naval hospital for treatment.  His physician diagnosed him with melancholia (melancholy), however he made a self-diagnosis as primary paranoid psychoses.  After his release, he returned to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.  In 1881. Cindy Louise Jaynes was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania back in 1959.  She attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania receiving a bachelor of science degree in mathematics education in 1979.  In 1982, she received a master’s degree in mathematics.  She attended the US Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island graduating in 1983.  In 1985, she was assigned as an aeronautics maintenance officer.  she served many operational tours within the United States and at Diego Garcia.  One of her programs won the Naval Air Systems Command prize for project management.  She later became executive officer of the air anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs of the US Navy.  She retired from the Navy in 2016, after serving this Republic for 33 years.What you may n...

James A. Lafayette was born in New Kent County, Virginia back in 1748.  In 1781, with permission from his owner he joined the army under Lafayette.  He later joined the camp of Benedict Arnold.  After Arnold departed north in 1781, he joined Lord Charles Cornwallis where he continued his work of being a British spy against the American’s.Having eared the trust of Cornwallis, and because he was black he was trusted by the British.  They spoke openly about their plans against the American Army.  In 1824, when the Marquis de Lafayette returned to the United States he visited Richmond Virginia.  His carriage came to an abrupt stop when he rushed to James and embraced him.  In 1784, James was granted his freedom.  He received a pension from the United States for his service in the Revolution...

Antony Habersack Jannus was born in Washington, D.C. back in 1889.  In 1910, he was working as a boat engine mechanic when he became interested in flying.  In 1911, he was given his pilot’s license.  In 1913, he participated in an air exhibition where he flew the actress Julia Bruns 4,000 feet about Staten Island for twenty minutes.He moved to Florida where he became a test pilot for the Curtiss Aeroplane Company.  In July of 1915, he successfully flew the prototype Curtiss JN-3. Obed Hussey was born in Maine back in 1792.  At an early age the family moved to Nantucket.  Most of nothing is known about his early life however at a young age he sailed on whaling ships in the Pacific Ocean.  He lost his left eye, but the history on who it happened or when is lost.  He kept a journal dealing with his experiences in the whaling industry.By 1831, he was back in the Baltimore area where he was working on an invention, more on that in a moment. Edwin Hughes was born Wrexham, Wales back in 1830 to William and Mary.  He worked as a shoemaker until 1852, when he joined the 13th Light Dragoons of the British Army.  In 1854, he sailed from Portsmouth to the Crimea.  After arriving he saw battle at Balaciava, Inkerman and Sevastopol.He rose through the ranks to retire after 21 years of service as a troop sergeant major.  He was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.  At the time of his retirement he was 42.  He died in 1927, he was 96.What you may not know about Edwin is that he was the last surviving member of the Charge of The Light Brigade during the Crimean War of 1854-56.Your day is worthwhile when you make someone smile, so give the free gift of a smile today

Christie Lee Hudson was born in Monroe, Michigan back in 1954 to Herbert and Marjorie. The family moved to California where she attended the Paul Revere Junior High School.  Somewhere along the line her parents divorced and her mother married Donald.  Later she graduated from the Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles in 1972.She moved to Paris to study art.  In 1973, she was discovered by an American photographer Errol Sawyer.  As they say the rest is history.  This one is going to be short.  While she is 66 years young she is sought out to this day for her beauty. Charles Willis Howard was born in Albion, New York back in 1896 to William and Martha.  His aunt gave him a coping saw. By the time he was seven, he used that tool for fashion toy furniture and wagons for friends and family.  About that same time his mother sewed him a Santa Claus suit as he was a “short fat boy.”Later he observed other men portraying Santa Claus in a local store, he decided he could do better.  He approached John B. Merrill’s Furniture Store.   For 15.00 per week he worked in the storefront window manufacturing toys dressed in his Santa Claus suit.  He wrote to McCurdy’s Department Store in Rochester, New York about a position.  Dressed in his Santa Claus suit he walked into the store, Carl Skare the store manager took one look at him and asked, “when can you start?”  ...

James Horton was born in Gloucester, British Sierra Leone back in 1835.  He attended the CMS Grammar School.  After graduation, he attended the Fourah Bay College in hopes of becoming a clergyman.  In 1855, he received a British War Office scholarship to study medicine in Great Britain. He studied at King’s College, London and Edinburgh University graduating with a medical degree in 1859.  After graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the British Army as a Staff Assistant Surgeon.  His first station was in the West India Regiment.  After his retirement, he started a finance institution called the Commercial Bank of West Africa.What you may not know about James is that during his years in college he changed his first name to Africanus.  He was one of the founder of African natio...

Emily Elizabeth Holman was born somewhere in Pennsylvania back in 1854.  I could not find any information about her childhood, schooling and so on.  What I can tell you is the rest of the story, so let’s get to it.  She married David (date unknown) the union produced no children. She worked as a clerk in an architectural firm, before deciding to embark in her own firm.  In 1893, she opened E.E. Holman Architectural Firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She was successful as many of her clients were well know, such as John Hay, Secretary of State, Thomas C. Cairns, and Almon Turner to name a few.  She published her first plan book in 1884, she didn’t have a specialty, but her focus was on residential homes.  She retired in 1914.  She died in 1925, she was 71.What you may not know about Em...

Josephine Amanda Groves was born in Cowpens, South Carolina back in 1898 to John and Emma.  Her father was a Methodist minister.  She attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee earing a A.B. Degree in 1923.  She continued her education attending the Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College where she received her second Bachelor’s Degree.She married Guerney in 1925.  After graduation, she worked at the Bethlehem Center in Nashville, she was later hired as a field advisor in 1944 and retired in 1963.  She died in 1988, she was 90.What you may not know about Josephine Groves Holloway is that she was the first African-American to become a Girl Scout.  She was honored by the Girl Scouts of the USA was the naming of Camp Holloway in 1955 and the “Hidden Heroine” award in 1976...

Richard Milton Hollingshead, Jr., was born in Riverton, Burlington, New Jersey back in 1900 to Richard Sr., and Emma.  Again, I do not have any information about his education or early years. In the 1930’s he worked as a general sales manager at his father’s auto parts company, Whiz Auto Products.He had an idea about something that would place him in the history books.  After experimenting several different designs, he applied for a patent in 1932, he received patent number 1,909,537 in 1933.  His first operation opened in Camden, New Jersey in 1933. David Lee Hill was born in Gwangju, Korea to Presbyterian missionaries, but raised in Texas.  He graduated from the San Antonio Academy and in 1928 from McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  In 1934, he attended Texas A&M for two years before transferring to Austin College graduating in 1938.In 1939, he joined the United States Navy earning his wings later that same year.  Assigned to the USS Saratoga flying the TBD Devastator torpedo bomber.  in 1941, he was recruited into the 1st. Albert J. Herberger was born in Albany, New York back in 1931.  He was commissioned an ensign when he graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1955.   After graduation, his first duty was aboard the patrol boat Rockville.  He continued his education graduating with Class One from the Navy’s Destroyer School beginning his service in destroyers as Operations Officer about the Dewey.Not satisfied, he completed the engineering science at the Naval Postgraduate School serving with the Naval Advisory Group in Vietnam.  Later he acted as senior advisor to the Vietnamese Navy.  He later was the Director of Training at the Navy Officer Candidate School in, Newport, Rhode Island.  After his retirement, he worked as Administrator of the Maritime Administration of the Department of Transp...

Cindy Lou Hensley was born in Phoenix, Arizona back in 1954 to James and Marguerite.  While I do not know where she went to high school at in 1972 she enrolled at the University of Southern California graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1976.  She continued her education graduating from USC with a Master of Arts in special education in 1978.After graduation, she worked as a special education teacher dealing with children with Down Syndrome at Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona.  In 1979 at a reception in Hawaii, she met her future husband John.  They were married in 1980, the union produced three children.  Sadly, John died in 2018, he was 81.If you haven’t figured it out by now I’m writing about Cindy McCain, of course you know her husband former Senator John McC...

George Dewey Hay was born in Attica, Indiana back in 1895.  I don’t have any information prior to WWI, but after the war was over he was in Memphis, Tennessee working a WMC-AM radio.  January of 1923, he was a late-night announcer at the station.  By 1924 his popularity increased and he for WLS-AM in Chicago, Illinois where he served as the announcer for the National Barn Dance program.In 1925, he moved to WSM-AM in Nashville, Tennessee.  He retired and moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he died in 1968, he was 72.What you may not know about George is that he was the founder of the original Grand Ole Opry in 1925.  I know this one is short, but that’s all I have.Your day is worthwhile when you make someone smile, so give the free gift of a smile today.

Ellison Harvie was born in Prahran, Melbourne, Australia back in 1902 to Robert and Alice.  She graduated from the Warwick School for girls in East Malvern.  After graduation, she studied at Swinburne Technical College.  She travelled to Europe to further her knowledge returning to Australia in 1925. After her return, she attended the University of Melbourne until 1928. Ronald Lee was born in Emporia, Kansas back in 1944 to John and Betty.  The family moved to Zillah, Washington in 1958.  He got into trouble with the law, the second time around the judge gave him a choice between the military or jail, he chose the military.  In 1961, at the age of 17 he joined the United States Marine Corp. After boot camp, he was assigned to the aviation support field before becoming a drill instructor in India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego from 1965-1967.  He was sent to Okinawa, Japan, before being deployed to South Vietnam where he spent 14 months in-country.  In 1972, he was medically discharged due to several injuries.  He died in 2018, he was 74.What you may not know about Ronald is he was also an actor.  While ...

Thomas Hancock was born in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England back in 1786.  All I know is that his father was a cabinet maker, otherwise I have no data about his early life.  What I can tell you is that he was making coaches with his brother Walter in London around 1815.with England weather he began experimenting with different waterproof fabrics to protect the inside of the coaches he was making.He settled on rubber, from that he also created fastenings for gloves, suspenders, shoes and stockings with rubber added in to give them elastically.  Trouble was he was wasting a lot of the rubber.  By 1820 he had rented a factory in Goswell Road, London for his invention.  At first all he could do was 3oz at a time, which latter turned out 200lbs at a time, as his business grew.By 1825, he inve...

Halle was born in Ethiopia back in 1966.  The family fled to the United States during the Ethiopia coup in the mid-70’s.  They settled in Minnesota where she attended Saint John’s Preparatory School graduating in 1983.  She continued her education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving her B.S. and PhD in 1992.
