Marian AdamThanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post.  My intent is to put a smile on your face.  Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know.  Now sit back and enjoy.Marian was born in Bromberg, German Empire back in 1905 to Jozef and Matyida.  My research doesn’t tell me what school he attended except that he studied mathematics in Poznan University.  In 1929 before graduating he began attending a secret cryptology course which opened in January. The course was conducted off-campus at a military facility.  Anyway more of this to follow.  He graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree in mathematics.  In 1930 he began teaching a mathematics course at Poznan University, he also began to work part-time for the ...

The Block Street Hot Club with Miles Bowlin ( bass), Ryan Ashworth( guitar), Baron Lyle ( guitar) Felipe Todescan Antonio ( violin) will preform this Saturday at the Fayetteville Farmer's Market. Their music is on the  leading edge of the "Gypsy Jazz " music scene. This  music often said to have been started by guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt in the 1930s.Django was foremost among a group of Romani guitarists working in and around Paris in the 1930s through the 1950s. One of my favorite tunes that the group performs  is "Sweet Georgia Brown". This photo was taken at their performance a fews weeks back at the Bentonville Farmer's Market.

Exploring NWA:  Dickson Street Book Shop- Fayetteville, AR       Fayetteville, AR -  Recently, I was trolling through social media looking for something to read that would fill a few minutes in the carpool line, when I happened upon an article that piqued my interest from buzzfeed.com entitled, "17 Bookstores that will Literally Change Your Life."  Being that I fashion myself a moderately decent writer AND birthed two girls that go through books like they are water, I decided to see where these so-called "Life Changing" book shops were located.  Turns out, it is not necessary to take a road trip or even hop a plane at XNA to visit one of these treasure troves.  It is literally in our backyard, Northwest Arkansas!  The Dickson Street Book Shop is located in historic Downtown Fayette...

By the time you read this, you will be one of 500,000 people living in NW Arkansas. That’s an astounding number for those of us who have made this area our home for many years. The Northwest Arkansas Council made that projection based on the increase of residents in 2013 census over 2010 census. According to the council, this area grows by 24 people a day. The area includes Benton, Madison and Washington Counties in Arkansas and sparsely populated McDonald County in Missouri. Half a million people is really not that amazing when one considers the reasons people come here. We have jobs waiting to be filled, cost of living is low, homes and rentals are affordable, four-season weather is pleasant, people are friendly, air is clean and scenery is beautiful. As the population increases, more...

This last Sunday, the Fayetteville Chess Club offered our little part of Arkansas something new: a chess tournament! It was designed to help bring people of our community together for an activity for all ages. With contestants ranging from ages 10-65, it was a joy to see all of these people coming together to support the club. The entrance fee of 5$ went into paying for the club's affiliation fee to the United States Chess Federation, which rates chess players according to her or his skill.          Les Kline, the head coordinator for the tournament, has been running the club and puts on the club's yearly tournament. He teaches chess lessons, and especially likes opening up the world of chess to youngsters. With a few of Les's students in the tournament, he was happy that they ...

The Place for Breakfast in Fayetteville AR My wife and I had noticed this little cafe for several years before we finally decided to give it a try.  That was our Big Mistake.  The Rollin Pin Cafe is located at the intersection of Crossover Rd. and Highway 16/Huntsville Rd. at the east end of a small shopping center in southeast Fayetteville AR. Once we tried it, we have been returning on a regular basis ever since.  Chances are you will too, if you're craving fantastic home-style cooking in a friendly country atmosphere.  Give them a try and let me know what you think, but keep in mind they are only open for breakfast and lunch (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.), so make your plans to stop by sometime soon. Take a look at the breakfast I enjoyed on Saturday morning.  It's called the "John Wayne Omelett...

Pernicious is the new word of the day. While in my younger years I wished this on people who I believed had wronged me now I don’t want this to happen to anyone.  I was a very vengeful person in my younger days.  Now this is something you don’t want to happen to you especially with its meaning.  Therefore cross all your (t’s) and dot all you (i’s) if you get my drift.  The meaning of (per nish’es) is causing great ruin or something that is evil; wicked.   While I don’t believe any of you are wicked not getting that contract right may cause you ruin (financially).  Join us tomorrow for another journey into the wonderful world of Wordsmith.

The University of Arkansas recently announced its ranking in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance 2012 report of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.” Not only is U of A the only school in Arkansas mentioned in the list, it managed to move its position upward.   University of Arkansas is now ranked 53rd in the nation for in-state students and 56th for out of state students, an improvement over the rankings of 57 and 58 respectively in 2011 list.   Kiplinger rankings were based on a survey of 500 public universities across the country. Several academic measurements were considered – student SAT or ACT scores, admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios, and 4- and 6-year graduation rates. Financial aspects such as cost, availability of financial aid, and student debt after graduation w...

I am a top Realtor in Northwest Arkansas and when these tornadoes hit in Joplin, which is so close to home, our community was extremely saddened by Joplin's loss. In fact, many in our Northwest Arkansas community went to help out our neighbors in need. I was so excited when I heard that Extreme Makeover Home Edition was going to help families re-build their homes and their lives. I watched the show last week and I have to say I had tears in my eyes. What an amazing show! The people in Joplin's lives have forever been changed but what an amazing story - so many people and communities surrounding Joplin pitching in to help...Since Extreme Makeover Joplin aired on TV, I have been asked by Northwest Arkansas buyers where they could find homes built in NWA, similar to those that the wonderfu...

We all love farmers’ markets and Fayetteville’s Farmer's Market certainly is a most enjoyable place to shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, cut flowers, baked goods, handmade crafts and much more.   The market is open each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday throughout the season on the Fayetteville Square. Saturday’s market in particular is usually bursting vendors, shoppers and entertainers alike. It is a wonderful way to spend some time buying locally grown fresh food for the family while supporting farmers at the same time. There are additional opportunities on Sunday morning at the Ozark Botanical Gardens and from 4-7 on Thursdays in the Mill District.   So I am pleased to let you know that people nationwide had an opportunity recently, through American Farmland Trust, to vote for...

Boudreaux staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy, Thibodeaux. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Clotile. He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful. Managing not to yell, Boudreaux sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of Band-Aids and began putting Band-Aids best he could on each place he saw blood. He then hid the now almost empty box and shuffled and stumbled his way...

FRIDAY A Doctor was addressing a large audience in Tampa . 'The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago.. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. However, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have eaten, or will eat it.  Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?' After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row raised his hand, and softly said, 'Wedding Cake.'

Inspectors and (inspectors) The other day we had a home inspection for a closing soon.  The inspector had a reputation as an honorable person so I was pleased to hear the clients had chosen him for the job.  The home was newer and should have had only a few minor problems.  When we got the report there was a host of minor issues but only three had my clients worried. Well we agreed to let all the minor items pass and focused on three.  The first two were no problems but the last on concerning the (lintel) over the garage door was another thing.  The owner, my clients’ daughter and her husband, plus the agents involved met at the home and the inspector explained his case.  After he left the owner tore away some of the metal and the sheet rock surrounding the door.  Turns out the inspec...

As the story goes a young pastor at finishing one of his sermons announced to the congregation this would be his last one.  He stated Jesus had spoken to him and we was moving on.  As soon as the last words got out of his mouth the choir director got up and announced “Let’s all sing “What a friend we have in Jesus”.  Now I wonder when a client fires us do they rejoice as did the congregation?  What do you think?

Interesting listing appointment… I send out a letter to the expired listings I receive through our MLS.  It has proven to be successful in the past but for some reason I was in a slump.  I took the letter to my PB and with some adjustments I had a new letter.  Anyway not long afterwards I received a call and showed up for a listing appointment.  I as a rule usually look around the home before we get to a comfortable place to talk about a number of things, like why they want to sell, motivation etc.  I had printed out the expired MLS sheet along with comps and we started talking about why the home did not sell.  During this portion of the conversation I learned some interesting facts.  Fact #1 the client has a home approximately 1918 sq. ft. with 21 acres of land.  He told the agent to...
