Georges Claude was born in Paris, France back in 1870. He studied at the Higher School of Physics and Industrial Chemistry of the City of Paris. After graduation, he held several positions as an electrical inspector in a cable factory. He founded and edited the magazine (The Electric Spark). In 1902, he along with Carl von Linde founded the (Air Liquid) company which is now headquartered in Paris, France. At a young age, he was against any democratic rule. In 1933, he joined the Action Francaise which was in favor of restoring a monarchy in France. He supported the German occupation of France publishing several papers in support of the Germans. François-Philippe Charpentier was born in France back in 1734. His father was a bookbinder who made sacrifices so that François could attend a Jesuit college at Blois. After a few years he left so he could support himself. He started working as an engraver of copperplate in Paris. As they say the rest is history.He invented a way of engraving the copper plate resembling a watercolor (aquatint). A few years later he sold the secret. Ferdinand Phillippe was born in Moislains, Somme, France back in 1824. Sorry I don’t have much information about him until 1858. In that year, he invented something that was the mainstay until the early 1900’s. Because this one is going to be short, very short he died in 1900, he was 75. Eugene James Bullard was born in Columbus, Georgia back in 1895 to William and Josephine. He attended the Twenty-eighth Street School from 1901-1906. As a teenager, he stowed away on the German freighter Marta Russ arriving in England then decided to settle in France. He worked in a music hall. With the outbreak of WWI, he enlisted in the French Foreign Legion with the 3rd Marching Regiment of the Foreign Legion. By 1915, he was a machine gunner seeing combat on the Somme front in Picardy. He also saw action serving with the 48th Infantry Division. For his action during the Battle of Verdun when he was wounded, he was awarded the croix de guerre. Charles Francis was born in Euclid, Ohio back in 1849 to Isaac and Delia. He attended Central High School in Cleveland graduating with honors in 1867. He received an undergraduate education from the University of Michigan and his PhD at Case Western Reserve University in 1880.Before graduating he received his first U.S. Patent # 189,997 to which he continued to add improvements to it. His first project was the Philadelphia’s Wanamaker’s Grand Depot. John Brown was born in Sheffield, England back in 1816. His father was a slater (one who covers buildings with slate). When he turned 14 he apprenticed to Earl, Horton, & Company. They manufactured files and cutlery. In 1844, he started his own company John Brown & company manufacturing steel.He sold the business shortly after making a huge profit. Margaret Brewer was born in Durand, Michigan back in 1930 to Maurice and Anne. After graduating from a Catholic High School in Baltimore she entered the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she received a bachelor’s degree in geography in 1952. She joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1952 commissioned as a second lieutenant. She was assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro, California. Assigned to several stations she continued to rise through the ranks before retiring in 1980 after 18 years of serving this country. Edward Black was born around 1853 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined the 21st Indiana Infantry seeing action at the Battle of Baton Rouge, Battle of Mobile Bay, Battle of Spanish Fort, the Battle of Fort Blakely and the Bayou Teche Campaign to name a few during the American Civil War.He was captured at the Battle of Baton Rouge, but was freed when the city fell being discharged in 1862. He re-enlisted in 1863 serving with the 1st, Indiana Heavy Artillery until 1866, he died when he was only 18. James Biard was born in Paris, Texas back in 1931 to James and Mary. When he was 6, due to some digestive issues his doctor recommended a diet of mashed overripe bananas, stewed apples and homemade dried cottage cheese. Get this, his mother would take unpasteurized milk in a cup towel and hang it on the outdoor clothes line. David Dunbar was born in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland back in 1854. His family moved to Detroit when he was two. At 15 he left school to work for a company that made plumbing goods. The company experienced financial troubles in 1882, at which time he and a partner took it over. At 28 he invented a lawn sprinkler and a method for permanently coast cast iron with vitreous enamel.With his inventions, he had enough capital to turn his attention to another line of business. Robert Lewis was born in Flint, Michigan back in 1922.  After high school, he worked at odd jobs before enlisting in the United States Marine Cops. Ballington Booth was born in Brighouse, England back in 1857 to William and Catherine. As a teenager, you could find him preaching at the Salvation Army open-air meetings. At twenty-three he became a Colonel in the Salvation Army as a Training Officer. He was sent to Australia, the United States and Canada training those in service to the Salvation Army. In 1886, he married Maud when they were assigned to the United States. Both of them became American citizens in 1895. Alexander Bain was born in Houstry, Caithness, Scotland back in 1811. He did not do well in school so his parents had him apprentice to a clockmaker in Wick. He moved to Edinburgh in 1837 where he worked as a journeyman in Clerkenwell. He enrolled in Yale around 1763 but only stayed for two years because of the oppressive discipline and the college’s unpopular president. He and fellow student later to become a Justice of the Supreme Court Oliver Ellsworth transferred to the College of New Jersey (today Princeton University) where he received his law degree.He was a successful attorney elected to the colonial assembly in 1772. Stanley Armour was born in Wichita, Kansas back in 1918 to Ralph and Ruth. When he was 8 he discovered his mother’s body after she committed suicide. His father placed him in the care of his maternal grandparents in El Dorado, Kansas. It was reported that he punched his high school principal. He spent some time drifting, hopping rail to Chicago, California among other places.He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in the European Theatre of WWII. After being discharged in 1945 he moved to Berkeley, California working for a furniture company. Jack Aeby was born in Mount City, Missouri back in 1923. He found work at the Manhattan Project in 1942. His various jobs included ferrying scientists and equipment from Los Alamos to Albuquerque. He worked his way up the ladder to the SEC (Special Engineering Detachment) as a technician. After WWII, he went to UC Berkeley receiving his degree working for the Health Physics Department. Vasco Abadjiev was born in Sofia, Bulgaria back in 1926. To say he was brilliant would be an understatement. He graduated from a secondary school at nine. In 1936, his parents moved to Brussels, Belgium. At thirteen he graduated from the Brussels conservatoire with the highest distinction. Right after graduation in 1939, he travelled to Germany, France, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. His father died in 1947 which was a difficult time for him. In 1952, he moved in with his mother in Bulgaria. In 1956, both of them resettled in Germany, never to leave again. His mother died in 1965. After her death, his live spiraled downward.
