New town born in Baldwin County Sunday, June 14, 2009 By CRAIG MYERS Staff Reporter Perdido Beach is officially a town, according to Baldwin County Probate Judge Adrian Johns, and voters there are expected to choose their first mayor and council this fall. The 2cm HALF-square-mile incorporated area between Palmetto Creek and Soldier Creek includes a full-time population of 558, reported a committee appointed by Johns that completed the count this month. On Wednesday, Johns issued the order declaring a town of Perdido Beach "with all rights and powers granted by the laws of Alabama to such corporation." Well folks, it is our last night at the beach, the Alabama Governor's Health & Safety Conference is coming to a close, and it is our last night to entertain visitors at the famous Flora-Bama. It's one of those traditions that is a part of visiting this area of the beach.  The Flora-Bama, as it's name suggests, is situated on the Florida/Alabama state line.  The place nearly blew away in Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, but repairs have been made and the Flora-Bama lives on! I have only been a few times, and it is always loud and crazy.  This evening I am going once again, bringing visitors to the area that have heard so much about it and wouldn't miss it.
