I attended this event and had a really nice time. If you can not make it this year I would encourage you to attend next year.Garden in the Park is Opelika’s annual event featuring handmade and homegrown art. There will also be entertainment on stage, children’s activities and delicious food. There is no charge for admissions into Garden in the Park.Throughout the day, a variety of vendors, children’s activities, and live entertainment will be showcased. Items for sale will include handmade jewelry, bags, paintings, plants, personalized items, children’s clothing, and pottery. Brownfield House in Opelika ALConstructed in 1850 by Dr. Robert Styles Brownfield, the home is described as transitional in style, moving away from Neo-Classical (also known as “antebellum”) toward Victorian. The house remained in the Brownfield family’s possession for nearly a century before passing out of their hands and falling into severe disrepair.In the 1970s, the house was slated to be burned for training exercises for the Opelika Fire Department. Along with help from the city, the recently formed OHPS intervened, rescuing the house in an attempt to restore it to its former glory.Opelika’s historic Brownfield House is now open to the public for hosting events. Beautiful day in downtown Opelika ALJust wanted to share some fun videos with my dog, Hans from a recent visit to the downtown Opelika, AL area. The historic downtown area is such a quaint and lovely  area to spend time and shop. Don't forget to look at the water fountain in front of the Lee County courthouse. You can stroll downtown Opelika with a self-guided tour to learn about town's history. The brochure can be acquired at downtown retail shops, chamber or Main Street office. The Caroline Dean Wildflower Trail (CDWT) started as a walking path in 2008 with access from Park Road through the Salem Shotwell Covered Bridge. The figure 8 shaped trail was constructed to honor Ms. Caroline Dean, an Opelika resident. In 2008, she received a National Wetlands Award for advocating for and educating others about native flora and wildflowers in the Southeastern U.S., especially those found in wetlands. I hope you enjoy the pictures I took on a recent visit. There were many updates to the trail and it was beautiful as always.
