4th Annual Marie W. Wooten Memorial Run On September 20, the College of Sciences and Mathematics will host the 4th annual Marie W. Wooten Memorial Run. The event will feature a 10k and 5k race and 1-mile walk. The race is held each year in honor of Marie Wooten, former dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics, who was tragically killed after being struck by an automobile while she was out on her morning jog. An avid runner, Wooten had planned to hold a 5k to raise money for scholarships. The race honors her memory and helps COSAM continue her vision for the future of the college as all proceeds go toward scholarships. "Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will host a double feature of the new documentary, “From Billions to None: The Passenger Pigeon’s Flight to Extinction.” It will show at 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 and at 3 p.m. on Oct. 2. Using sharp CGI animation techniques, “From Billions to None” uncovers the life story of the passenger pigeon up to its extinction and highlights conservation issues today. For centuries, the passenger pigeon was the most populated bird in North America, but was hunted to extinction. This September is the 100th anniversary of the death of the last captive pigeon, officially terminating the species. Guests are encouraged to stay after the second viewing in October to hear environmental specialist Joel Greenberg speak about his career as a writer, speaker and consultant on...

Have you ever had someone say something that stuck with you for years?  Those few words that come back time after time and you never forget them? I sat in church one Sunday and an elderly pastor shared his sermon with the congregation.  His words, I'll always remember.  It made an impact on my way of thinking, my life. This is what he said. "Rude doesn't make you right."  "Rude never makes you right."  "If you are right and you are rude, you are wrong."  "Rude is wrong." That was one of my WOW moments. When someone is rude I think about that day an elderly pastor shared his life lesson with me and his congregation. How many times has someone been rude to you?  Was it right?  *

Becoming best known for its University and top-ranking SEC Football, Auburn, Alabama is rising rapidly in the charts with increasing, national recognition for its year-round benefits for families and retirees. In 2009, U.S.News & World Report reviewed Auburn with other growing towns across America, and ranked Auburn as the 2nd best place to live. This town scores big for its southern charm and collegiate vigor, but that is only icing on the cake of community development and layers of a historically sound economic growth.   Auburn’s proximity to world class golf courses, a state park, a flourishing small business network that facilitates vital, community outreach, the preserv...
