McHenry Roofing, a GAF certified roofing contractor serving Baltimore, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Carroll County, and Montgomery County, has recently received high praise from a satisfied customer for their outstanding work in roof installation. Marguerite Mckinney, a resident of Baltimore, had reached out to McHenry Roofing to inspect a part of her roof that had suffered damage. She was pleased to share her positive experience with the company and gave them a 5-star rating."Roofers near Federal Hill have been mailing me fliers for years. I contacted McHenry Roofing to inspect one specific part of my roof that had suffered damage. Their estimator was very knowledgeable and he pointed out problems with my roof that I didn't even know about. I ended up caving in and getting a who...

Arizona Falls dating back to the 1800s is a joy to visit in the Arizona Desert City of Phoenix and now generates power as part of a free public park refreshing for visitors with multiple waterfalls. (Photo: SRP website)Jeff Masich says hello at Arizona Falls in Phoenix ArizonaMany people do not know about Arizona Falls at the GR Herberger Park is the only waterfall in Phoenix caused by a natural 20 foot drop in the Arizona Canal. Locals have been coming here since the 1800s often on horseback for swimming and picnics. Here is an old picture of Arizona Falls in the time before electricity. Yet, surprising that many current day locals do not even know it exits! This city park maintained by SRP was the first hydro power plant in Phoenix powering 150 homes and is still in operation today. There are many different varieties of daisies that grow well in Flower Mound, Texas (Zone 8). What I like about them the most is that they are perennials that I can count on year after year. Often defined as purity, innocence, new beginnings, joy and cheerfulness, they are my dependable plants that begin to bloom mid May through mid summer or longer. This plant in my feature photo started in 2014. It continues to grow stronger year after year. The butterflies it attracts are always a nice surprise that widens the eyes to observe closer. Did you know there are 12 Birth Month Flowers? Daisies are an April flower. Hawthorne is for May and Honeysuckle for the month of June.  I have a new variety of Shasta Daisies that look a lot different. I planted it in early spring, and it started bloomin...

Baltimore, MD based McHenry Roofing is recommending that homeowners consider installing soffit vents. These specialized vents offer a few distinct advantages, and their absence could lead to costly damage to a roof, gutters and attic. Customers may contact the Butchers Hill roofer at any time to learn more or request an estimate.Soffit is the term given to a type of finishing material that is used on the underside of eaves or rafters. While the underside of eaves can remain exposed and unfinished — and the company confirms that some prefer this — soffit is installed to cover this area. When done correctly, it can contribute to the aesthetic appeal of the house. It serves certain practical functions as well; McHenry Roofing says that it keeps moisture away from the rafters, thereby limit...

Every day there are outrageous stories about a state or local government wanting to allow children to consent to gender transition treatments without parental consent....and government deciding that children belong to "all of us". My favorite is trans athletes competing in the class of their choice. Other than the obvious absurdity in this....isn't the simple answer...."WE DON'T ALLOW ADULTS TO COMPETE AGAINST BOYS AND GIRLS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, SO WHY WOULD WE ACCEPT MEN (A TRANS WOMAN IS A MAN) TO COMPETE IN WOMEN'S CATEGORIES?Isn't this blatantly unfair and inconsistent with the above?Happy Memorial Day!!! While our front yard is often designed with the public in mind, our backyard is where we can express ourselves and unwind. Whether you prefer a quiet spot to read or a space for outdoor games, the backyard is yours to do with as you please. Create A Relaxation AreaMake a relaxing area in the backyard. After all, this is your own private nature retreat. Hang a hammock between two trees or find a shady nook for a lounge chair, then sip an iced tea and take it all in. Add A Water FeatureA soft trickle of water is one of the simplest ways to make a space more inviting. The best thing about water is that it attracts birds to the garden. Try self-contained units that don't require any digging to incorporate a water feature onto a patio or back deck. Build A Fire PitA wood-burning fire pit can...

Chush Falls is Snow Free and Ready for HikersWe have hiked Chush Falls several times, usually during the fall or winter with snow and ice. However, this Memorial Day weekend we elected to take the hike in the Three Sisters National Wilderness snow free. Unlike earlier hikes, many of the recently downed trees from the 2017 Milli Fire had been cut which enabled us to more easily hike the first two miles. However, the last quarter to half mile to the viewpoint had yet to receive this attention and scrambling over and under downed trees can always create challenges. The viewpoint overlooking Chush Falls is fairly obstructed by trees, so we typically take the very steep path down to the base of the falls, a path which should only be taken by people who are fit enough to make it both down and...
