Is the Irish exit when you have had too much Irish Whisky to drink and you have to be helped out? If so, no.

I love the Irish goodbye and it's not because I'm part Irish. I do it 100% when it's NOT rude to do so. Never if I'd offend the host. e.g. If it's an open-house style party, a wedding or a networking event...almost always as I hate the goodbye process...which takes another half hour at large events.

I do not do it at hosted events where I know the host and many of the guests and or small events where an exit is noticed immediately.

I had to look up what that meant! I would only do that if I couldn't find the host/hostess and in that case would ask someone else to let them know I left.

I'm part Irish and I had to look that one up.  No, I always say goodbye to the host(s) when I leave.  If I can't find them, or they're busy, I find someone in their inner circle to say goodbye to and to have them give my thanks to the host.

No, I would say goodbye, we gotta go!
And being full blooded Italian, hug and grab butts of our friends on the way out.  🤗
LOL I was just at a large MLS event, and did just this.
It's my job to spread happiness, and the shit is expensive, dammit!
Also I want my haters to have access to my ass so they can kiss it on the way out! 😎

I rarely attend "social events".  When I do, I will always thank the host before leaving.

depends on the situation and event, at a smaller hosted event I'm invited to I always thank the host before leaving, at larger gatherings I typically engage the host and thank them and compliment them on the turnout or food or decorations or something DURING the event, then can depart whenever I'm ready...so dunno if that meets your definition but that's how I roll 😎

Even at a large reception to which I was specifically invited, I seek out the host to thank and say goodbye.

While I could guess at the meaning I had never heard of this so looked it up. Normally I would seek out the host(s) to say thank you and goodbye if at all possible, unless it's a very large event.

Not unless it's an emergency, which has happened a couple of times at large events.

Home again, home again...

I had to look it up because I'd never heard the term.

It's not something that I'd ever needed to do, since just like Groucho Marx, I would never attend a function that was low-class enough to be willing to invite me.

I always say my good-byes to the host/hostess. If I know I'm going to have to leave early and it's a big event I may something to the hosts so that if I leave they'll understand.

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

The Golden Rule applies here in my opinion.

I try to put myself in the host/hostesses position - I would worry about those who left without saying goodbye. So, I would have to follow up with them to be sure they were okay. I would not want to do that to anyone else.
