I was going to say he didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart. He was getting something very advantageous to him out of it. I then saw your "massive tax write off"... and thought "Bingo!"

I suspect he's still operating with a serious karma points deficit.

Wow, that is quite the donation, but then again, it will be good on the tax bottom line too.

I had not heard that Buzz Mackintosh and I think that is GREAT. Both of my parents died of cancer. It is a disease that needs to be conquered.

A great donation that solves his problem of lack of interest along with the bonus of a tax break!

Pay wall won't let me read it.

My thoughts - if you can't sell it (previously), you can donate it.

I did not hear about that, but I often wonder why people do the things they do, whether it is for their benefit or truly out of the kindness of their heart.

I had not heard about the donation of this very valuable house to the Cancer Society. Yes, Daniel Snyder has had his issues. But, yes, this is a great gift to the Cancer Society no matter what motive you might want to attribute for the gift.

Some properties may not be good to inherit... The heirs may not sustain the expense of ownership.  Think Hearst Castle in CA.  Holding costs were too outrageous for the heirs, so Wm Randolf donated it to the state for a tax break.  It's now a state park.
