We try a new recipe, especially one with ingredients we have to hunt.  We have found so many things that are now a weekly or monthly staple.  This year is a handwritten one I found in a thrift shop cookbook.  It was folded between the pages with lots of stains on it.  I can't wait for Christmas Eve to put it to test.  Covid made us cook more and now we appreciate the old recipes and stories.

We have more ornaments than our tree can hold.

Age and family relocations has changed our Christmas season.

Last year, we visited out of state. This year in-state, but still traveling.

Traditions may change as life unfolds.

Hi Will, We give our kids a new ornament each year. We started that when they were young so they'd have a tree of memories when they grow up. My daughter has taken hers since she is married. He husbands parents did the same so he has ornaments too. They add ornaments from their travels. We still give them ornaments. I'm not sure when we'll end that tradition. Maybe when the grands come along.

We also do family pjs when all the kids are in town which is about every other year. This year we'll have our son and next year we hope to have all three including our two kids and our son in law plus anyone else they want to bring.

I try to enjoy the holiday each and every day from Thanksgiving on. This includes decorating, buying/giving gifts, celebrating with friends and family, listening to Christmas music, enjoying neighborhood lights, being grateful, attending church and enjoying the seasonal music, and remembering the Reason for the Season. I realize not everyone who celebrates Christmas celebrates because of Jesus and I try to personally mediate on why I am celebrating. It's my favorite holiday!

We really are not adding to our holiday decorating.  Our current tree has been unchanged for 30 years - and is just as charming today as it was 30 years ago.

We have traditions with family and friends mostly. Each year, for 30 years now, we host a party with 4 other couples and we do an ornament exchange (White Elephant). That's typically the only ornament I buy each year.

Last night's party with those friends, Ray drew the Ace (high) so, we got last pick and wound up with a gorgeous ornament that fit perfectly on one of our pastel trees!

This is a month of reading the Book of Luke (in the Bible) which takes you right to the birth of Jesus Christ -- the Reason for the Season -- When my children were young I would scatter the entire Nativity Scene throughout the house and each day would bring the figures closer and closer.  On Christmas Eve I would bring in Mary and Joseph. And on Christmas morning the Baby Jesus would appear in the manger.  A few days later?  The three wise men could be now bowing and presenting their gifts ...

We don't have any Christmas traditions any longer. My wife use to make or  buy the kids a new ornament each year, they are grown now and have trees lights only or all one color ornaments that change each year. Even our traditional Christmas meals have changed over the years

Ring kettle bell for Salvation Army and Christmas Auction for Rotary with proceeds to support local library, backpack for kids. The tree is loaded with ornaments the kids made at home and school growing up. Am a sucker for another Department 56 Christmas in the City building or two but running out of room.

My wife and I were always believers in having a live tree until about six years ago.  We bought an artificial tree and couldn't be happier.  It is beautiful, in perfect shape and is like brand new this year still.  It cost half of what a new tree costs today.  We don't worry about fire or having the tree dry out.  There are no needles to clean up for the next six months and we can enjoy having it up for much longer.

I used to buy a special new tree ornament every year..... BC, as in "before cats."  About 11 years ago we found an abandoned pregnant kitty in a parking lot, ended up not only her and her kittens, but along the way we adopted several rescue cats in need of homes as well.  With this crew having a Christmas tree is a big no-no.  You've probably all seen the videos of cats climbing or knocking over the family Christmas trees.

So we've had to get creative.  My favorite Christmas ornaments now get hung from a light fixture in the living room that the cats can't reach.  I've collected a number of vintage (think 1950's & 60's) Christmas themed tablecloths and table runners that go a long way towards providing Christmas cheer, plus the remainder of the decorations we put out are now all unbreakable.

As to traditions, I still send out old fashioned Christmas cards to family, close friends & customers who have become friends along the way.  My hubby and I bake and icing sugar cookies we deliver to certain neighbors and friends that look forward to them each year.  In the past few years we also try to give as much time as we can helping out the various local cat rescue agencies as they are often short staffed over the holidays.

There are so many worthwhile organizations that need volunteers at the holidays, I wish we could do more.
