I was not aware, thanks for sharing. It must be a certain kind of pine cones. We have tons of pine cones where we live.

Our Arabic cooking culture uses pine nuts extensively.  They are sure good once fried and added to certain arabic dishes.

I was never a big nit fan and now that is good since my grandson is seriously allergic. He is being monitored yearly to see if he has a chance go growing out of it or a t least becoming less allergic.

I love pine nuts but never connected them to a pinecone!!!! Interesting and yes, they are expensive. We used to use them in pesto.

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

Oh, I love pine nuts and have to say that there's a reason they're so expensive - they are a challenge to 'harvest!' Lots of work but, well worth it.

I also enjoy roasting them - I think that really brings out the flavor. I either eat them plain/roasted or toss them on a salad. They are delish!

There was a pizza place in LA we used to order from at work . . . a favorite was called 'Quatro' with 4 cheeses and topped with roasted pine nuts. Of course Italians in Chicago, NY and NJ are rolling their eyes (and I did too, didn't stop me from eating it!) . . . it was good! LOL
