Why do people become property managers?  Well, for the money and glamour, of course.

In my 40 plus years of management of properties, this is exactly one of the things I trained for and how to handle it to prevent costs, problems and the like. Here is the paradox: No one knows just how good I am because I prevent & eliminate problems. Because I do this effortlessly, my fees are questioned. People tend to handle or do business elsewhere until they come across exactly what I do thus realizing this guy knew his stuff.

This is so terrible for the owner. You have to tough it up & take stock of what can happen with his younger child.  So sad.

Well, I got instantly sick as did my buyer walking into a crack house unknowingly on a tour of homes back in 2005, so the precautions are understandable...unfortunate situation.

We still manage our homes Godfather-style so we make'em a lease they can't refuse - or violate. 😎😂

I remember.  Hopefully, the owner of the rental property can and will recpature the costs. 

I quit the property management business when we had an oil boom Mimi Foster . The boom brought in a lot of good jobs but it also brought in all the scum that feed off of the new oil workers making more money then they can spend. Lots of meth and prostitution.

Oh, Mimi, WOW! Just WOW! I totally didn't expect that after the last update. I do, however, wonder if it was the girlfriend though. I hope how soon your homeowner gets this resolved. 

Hope they had a large security deposit, and the tenant has a good income.

And you know that "use" is pretty prevalent, just no one blows the whistle. Scary.  

I do remember. Very sad for the child and horrible for the owner. Why do people become Property Managers and not manage the properties that they are paid to manage? We went through 3 of them and lost a fair amount of money due to the fact that they weren't doing their job. We had to have them as we lived out of the province at the time.

Sigh . . . and there are 2 mindsets here - 'clean orderly father with younger child' is blameless and 'crazy X' did it . . . 

OR 'high functioning user' who can keep it cool in the 'real world' 

I knew a 'superagent' in SoCal who was a 'supertweaker' back in the 80s . . . few knew. One never knows.

As for why people become PMs . . . I did twice, in 2 states and I never will again. 

Thankfully, I never faced these issues when I was in the property management business. We sold that business long ago.

Wow, the security deposit certainly won't cover all of that.  This is certainly an extreme example of the horrors related to rentals and property management, haha.

Oh wow! I was hoping it was all a lie. I guess it is hard to say if it was him or the ex. I hope he knows how dangerous it is to the child. Let us know how this ends up.

You never really know what you're going to get when dealing with people.

Money for the owners and problems for the property manager. It's take a special breed to be a good and tolerant property manager. as an asset manager many years ago for a large portfolio of mainly multifamily I had the utmost respect for those on the front line.

I only know why I'm no longer in that business.

Sideways off topic--- I started doing 2 loans for an investor in North Philadelphia, Kensington which is the cornerstone of a new epidemic called tranq (also called the zombie drug). Investor thought he was getting golden goose until I sent a link. Why do people fall down this deathly hole?

A friend sent me the IG link to a post: ''House for sale… includes “inactive Meth lab”. The price is shocking (not shocking) in CA'' . It is  $1.5 mln . Someone comment nailed it:  ''Let’s rephrase that. “Comes with a positive cash flow business inside!”

Property Managers make money and those that are Realtors get listings from some of the properties that they manage.  There is a downside to everything we do in life.
