I fail to see the relationship between what happened on this commercial building and a flip house.
Yet, I would always caution any buyer who buys a flip house to get current and complete inspections on the house.
We know that profit driven flippers could cut corners to avoid expenses and those shortcuts could adversely affect the new owner.

This goes beyond investors or flips. Normal home sellers have been known to cut a truss or two to 'make something fit or work'. I've run into some over the years and it's always 'this MUST be repaired and have it signed off on by an engineer. We typically will make a copy, put it in plastic sleeve and attach to the area repaired.

It is always important to have a home inspection done by a licensed inspector. And any work done on a home should be done by licensed contractors. Anything else can lead to problems.

It should be interesting to see what actually happened. Me thinks lots of this material will be reused. The tv folks are not the experts here.

Even with single family home developments its best to get a pre-inspection and post inspection to have the work checked out properly. Many folks seem to want to cut corners.

WOW, Caroline Gerardo - thank goodness no one was injured.
They said it is "unlikely" any of the material will be reused. One has to wonder though. Yikes!

Florida roofing laws are tough; the statutes were re-written after the record breaking 2005 Hurricane Season. But there are lipstick on a pig flippers who will try to get around the code requirements.
As others said, get an inspection. Make certain they climb into the attic and look at the truss work, etc.

When I was doing building, my mindset was to build what would sell and for top dollar too. What would I like was the question I asked & answered. To cut corners is the equivalent of cutting your own results. The foolish tread here

Being in the industry for a bit, I have seen quite a few questionable things done by the do-it-yerselfers and the corner cutters (single side enforced trusses instead of both sides as an example). If a client wants to buy a residential flip, ensure the re-do was done by licensed professionals, have an inspection done and get their contact information, just in case...

There are those that follow the law and those that break the law. There are those that do it right and those that do not. Can't blame all flippers or law abiding citizens.

I hate that so many people cut corners these days, it's a difficult world to live in. Quality has certainly diminished, even when prices have increased.

Some folks like to treat flippers as if they were criminals, most are not.
First the city's building inspector would catch any defects in construction, then the buyer's inspector will also be looking for any defects.
Instead of villianizing flippers they should be thanking them for giving old homes a new lease on life, keeping them standing and modernizing them fixing them, and preparing them for the next homeowner.

It doesn't look to me that all the trusses were up yet. That doesn't make for a scammer. Not enough structure to hold everything up.

Caroline, the worst home I sold was by a flipper, and the buyers ended up terminating, and luckily they did an inspection. Scary when they are trying to sell homes that are dangerous.
