We are close to the same page. JoAnn and I were married on March 18, 1978 and my granddaughter Vivian was born on St.Patricks day 2022. So these are happy days!

I have some hangover memories from the day after St. Patrick's. Congrats on the anniversary of your engagement!

So many.  And share one with you... it was on 2002 on this day I got engaged. Had a June wedding also.  It's also my wife's birthday.

Congratulations Roy, that is quite a date! Enjoy the memories. One memory I have of the day is watching the St Patrick's Day parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City as a guest of the Bank of Ireland. The bank was located on the second floor of a building overlooking the avenue via huge windows. Of course we were treated to the usual fair for the day - corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and Irish soda bread.

Happy Happy Roy Kelley I marched in many St Patrick's day parades down Fifth Avenue in New York City with the school band.  Relatives were active in the Irish societies and they too marched.  Naturally, celebrations continued to warm our frozen bodies.  Happy St Patrick's Day😎

Happy St Patrick's Day and Happy Engagement Anniversary too.   As for your question, I don't have any special traditions or memories for the day.  

None that I can recall...lol We used to party pretty hard

SPD 1983 . . . I was a club DJ and it was 'green beer night' . . . but I was coming down with something and left early. 

On the way home, I stopped at Naugles, remember Naugles SoCal peeps? LOL yeah I know there is still one in OC somewhere . . . anyhoo it was raining, and I pulled out with my fries and coke, and wiggled a little over a double yellow line situating my food for the ride home. 

Red lights. Okay great, I'm sick, I'm hungry, I'm grumpy and I wanna go home . . .

2 cops. One much older, the other is clearly in training.

"Have you had anything to drink tonight?" 

(the answer they're used to hearing, but in my case it was true!) 
"Two small Dixie cups of green beer" 

"Please step out of the vehicle." CRAP, I don't have time for this! And as an entitled 25 year old, I felt like voicing this, as you will soon see!  (VERY BAD IDEA)

The younger one is practicing on me. "Now I need you to walk 9 steps, toe to toe, toward me, then turn around and walk 9 steps back.:

"YOU'RE GIVING ME A SOBRIETY TEST? I'm not drunk, I left work sick! Can I take off my (high platform) shoes at least?" 

"No. Just do what I say." Okay walk completed. The younger officer feels satisfied . . . but his older mentor, not just yet.

"Uh, Robbie, have her do the hand test" 

That's where you count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, then 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from thumb to pinky and back and forth touching each finger.

"54321, 12345, come on you guys know I'm not drunk! I'm coming down with something"

"Robbie, have her do the . . ."

"OH FFS, you are a rookie, and YOU are on a power trip!" 

Heh. That's all it took!

"Hands behind your back, young lady"

They took me to the drunk tank . . . I told them, you guys I'm not gonna blow more than a .05 in the breathalyzer, this is a waste of your time! 

While I was sitting, in my velvet jumpsuit and feather boa in the Orange County drunk tank with a bunch of real drunks . . . the cops moved my car off the freeway offramp to a grocery store parking lot. They knew they weren't gonna arrest me, they were just teaching me a lesson! 

And they did . . . NEVER mouth off to a cop, EVER! Ever!

They took me back to my car (after I blew a .05) and said "Young lady, we hope you have learned your lesson." and I threw my feather boa across my shoulder and said "Well gentlemen it's been a pleasure, I hope we can do this again REAL SOON" and they laughed their asses off . . .

That was CA . . . AZ, I may have been arrested! ZERO tolerance for DUI . . .

Everyone have a safe and insane time tonight . . . I'm home for the night!

Happy anniversary of your engagement, Roy. St Patrick's Day 1965 was obviously a very lucky day for you and Dolores. I got engaged around the time of my birthday, which is on March 21st... so it was close to St Patrick's Day, but couldn't give you a specific day. And I had both a June 28th wedding and a July 1st wedding. (Had to have two weddings in France, one a civil and one a church.)

OH, Happy 58th Engagement Anniversary, Roy! 🍾 I certainly can't top that! You and Delores have something so very special and there's nothing St. Paddy's that could trump that!

New York City in front of the library for the parade. My children were in elementary school. Their eyes popping out at shirtless men (who painted their chests orange and green, with green top hats jumping into the crowd.)

Yes, 45 years ago today, my older sister gave birth to the first grandchild in the family. Not only was he a sweet child and my little buddy, he has grown to be a fine man who loves his family and gets up and works to provide a good life for them! 🍀💚🍀
