No, NAR exists only to benefit itself. Like all massive trade unions, over time they cease to care about the people in the union and only about the people at the top making more money. Clear cooperation and "Rule 10" are clear proof that NAR has long since stopped caring about the rights of their members and the public at large.

Indeed! We are fiduciaries to our clients and NAR should be fiduciaries to agents REALTORS® as we are REQUIRED to be members of this particular UNION.
Yes, being members of NAR is forced unionization and to my understanding, unions exist to support their MEMBERS.
What DO we get from our union???

NAR has lost it's way. It is nothing more than a political super PAC. They don't care about Realtors anymore. That was apparent when they sold Realtor dot com to the highest bidder then sold out to sites like Zillow. NAR isn't even as good as other large trade unions. At least other unions usually pretend to represent the people paying dues. NAR, not so much.

Why would you think the NAR cares? They increasingly exist for themselves. I consider being a member of the NAR as forced unionization.

NAR should provide, news, education, business tools and resources for its members.
THE MEMBERS need to be the voice, they are the boots on the ground.
Recent and consistent image marketing fails show us all we need to know.

Olga Simoncelli is correct. NAR does not control interests rates. These are market driven and if you follow mortgage interest rates at all, they follow the 10 year treasury bond. When this goes up, so do interest rates. When it goes down, so do interest rates. And the fed sets the interest rates and keeps raising them to combat inflation - which is caused by overspending from congress. NAR can report on how high mortgage rates impact housing and can lobby against increased spending, but until congress gets a backbone and stops printing money and spending on the latest pork project, I don't see any change really happening.

That may be a good idea if your intent it to totally tank the market.
I am sure that our lobbyists are hard at work on congress and the other politicians.
As far as the public goes, we need to inspire positivity and confidence or they will stop buying.

That's what their lobbying effort is for- RPAC.
What good does a trade organization do by complaining about outside factors that we cannot control (i.e. interest rates)? Doesn't that shoot us in the foot as we alarm the public into not buying or selling? As professionals, we have been educating and changing the messaging to our clients in order to do business (either the house price is too high but interest rates or low, or you can finally negotiate because rates are high and homes are sitting on the market longer). It seems to be a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other.

If NAR railed, complained and bitched about interest rates in public ads they would look foolish and would make REALTORS look foolish.
NAR does not have the power to change the actions of the Federal Reserve.

Please. NAR is as worthless as the Appraisal Institute. They exist to collect fees, nothing more. They are clearly not concerned about the 20% of professional agents, better to cater to the 80% of hacks. They're in and out after paying; not fuss, no cares and an endless supply of new blood because...it's ALWAYS a great time to buy and sell real estate.
