Keep the ladder. You never know when it might be needed and those are expensive to buy. Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it!

That might be the best $500 you spent this year! I would keep the ladder - just don't do anything foolish that would cause you to end up in the emergency room again, or worse!

Nah, keep the ladder. Someone might volunteer to help you with something some day, and it would be good to have it available.

I regret leaving a 21 foot ladder at the ranch with brooms in the barn. I might need to borrow. A new A frame one costs $270. In my now smaller digs I could hang it from the rafters. Fell off that 21 footer in 2020 (saving feral cats from the top of barn) which led to the reason to sell. What can she get for the ladder? $5 and a guarantee you won't fall?

An expensive tree, why not save $1200 and let it fall down naturally when it is ready, leaving plenty of insects for the birds while it deteriorates.

Do you WANT to keep the ladder? Do you think you'll have some future use for it? Do you have a place to store it? Is it going to piss your wife off to keep it? Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?
Questions only you can answer.

Perhaps taking ladder 101 will mitigate the wife issue?

A ladder that size can still come in handy. Especially in a disaster scenario where your neighbor needs one and has something you can barter for.

I am older than you, have taller ladders than you, and I wouldn't sell mine just because of one incident. In fact I have had many incidents over the years... not just with ladders but many tools.
If your wife cuts her finger in the kitchen is she going to sell all of her kitchen knives Will Hamm ?

SELL that ladder! You do not need to be up on a 12 ft ladder, as we age Will ladders become far more dangerous for us! Your life is worth far more than any amount you will pay to have things done around the house.

Keep the ladder. I will be the basis for a good story when you host friends and family. Loan it out only with a written disclaimer of blame on behalf of the owner.

If a client asked me that under your circumstances, I'd probably say, "sorry, I don't have a contractor's license so I can't answer that."

No... you never know when you will need one, even if for someone you hire. They are very expensive and many handymen no longer have them.
