I never noticed  . . . in my area it gets soooo hot that blinds are usually closed to retain cooling. For a showing, we'd go up ahead and open blinds for light, then close them afterward . . .

I have not found that to be true. I suspect the people with their blinds/curtains closed are trying to keep the home cooler.

Are you referring specifically to homes that are listed for sale - or in general?

Generally speaking, I have not associated open or closed blinds with the square footage of a home. In my mind, I link it to:

Privacy

Keeping home cooler

Keeping home warmer

Day sleepers

That has not been my experience here so maybe it's local to your area. I do close our blinds on very hot days to keep it cooler or to cut glare but in general, they are always open.

I would say from my past showings that this is untrue. People who care to sell their house quickly stage it with the 'whatevers' open to let the sun shine in.

Can't say I have noticed. I would think the reasons for the closed or open blinds are more personal than related to SF. But that's me.

Nope, never noticed Shayne Stone . In our area it would have nothing to do with sq' it would have everything to do with drug usage.

I echo, echo, echo what everyone else is saying, Shayne! Have not noticed and while I love to open the blinds first thing in the morning, keeping our house cool is the priority, so close them after a bit.

I've not noticed that. This time of year (July/August) I only open some blinds. We have morning light in the back and afternoon light in the front and having some of the blinds closed can make a difference. However, we like sunlight so we have to open at least half of them. The rest of the year we open more.

Can't say I've noticed that. Most homes I see these days don't even have curtains. As for my own listings I often have sellers remove curtains completely and always tell them to open their blinds for showings.

Never noticed actually based on square footage. Since light is good, closed blinds are bad for showings!

When I first moved to Hollywood FL I could not believe so many homes did not have central air.  They were designed for trade winds to flow east and west.   I closed drapes on the east side of my home until noon in the summer and then on the west side while sun is setting.  It may be 95 degrees but with block out drapes, impact windows and shades...it is definitely cooler and makes a/c works less.

Many second homeowners close down their dwellings for the same reason.  Yes, I open them all for showings 😎

I don't see that at all in my market- blinds and curtains are open if the apartment gets great natural light. Often closed if the view is bad or presents as not receiving great natural light. I typically teach new clients what to look for as pictures can be deceiving and I can usually tell by the floorplan and pictures which apartments are likely to receive great natural light even if I am not familiar with the building.

Never noticed this in different size homes, however I have noticed that renters are much more likely to have their window blinds closed and often even have sheets over the windows.

Never asked them why, just always wondered why anyone would like to live in the dark like that.
