I haven't seen an oil heated house in a long, long time. I remember my Aunt's house in Tallahassee when I was a little kid, and a rental house in Charlotte that my sister lived in. Other than those two, I can't think of any.

In 23 years in Charlotte, I've never sold a house heated by oil. I've sold homes where unused oil tanks were buried and needed to be dealt with. The last time I lived in a home with oil heating was in NYC in a coop built in the 1930's.

I have not sold a home heated by oil. I am in CA. I will also add gas prices in my area are $6.15/gal for premium.

When I was in NY, most houses were heated by oil (included mine). It's just the way it was, and no, it wasn't hard selling them.
In MT, most houses use electric heat.

We still have quite a few homes, in the Baltimore area, with oil heat. I have buyers/sellers who specifically want this type of heat.

Own a woodlot and be a son of a birch... love Jotul woodstoves and if you stay a year ahead with seasoned wood, you don't worry about oil prices. Great exercise preparing for the next heating season too. Insulate whatever you have to the hilt Michael J. Perry !

I've been advising rural clients to upgrade from oil to propane for the past several years now. (electric is extortionate and natural gas is not available!) The problem many of these rural Sellers have found is the oil trucks are much heavier and can travel the hilly back roads far easier in the winter than the propane trucks. Also, propane shortages are not unheard of. It's a Catch 22 for sure!

Oil-fueled heat is still an option in the rural areas of our market. It just "is what it is" and if people want to live there, it's oil or propane. My most recent buyers were of the opinion that it wasn't ideal but they'd deal with it if it was the "right" house.

I've never had to try to sell a house heated by oil . . . not my area. 25 years ago, a financial advisor said put money into NE heating oil . . . then yall had a HEAT WAVE! I should have fired that guy when he was 30 min late for our first meeting!

Most homes here in NH are heated by oil. It is the newer homes that are now heated by natural gas where available. I just filled mine up at $5.79 gal and it hurt.

The last time I lived in a home heard by oil was in the 1950's. Have sold a few early in my career in the 70's.
Since then, no experience. By the way gas is over $5.00 a gallon in downtown Chicago and premium is $6.10.

I don't think so. Oil use has faded, and more people and builders around here have switched to propane. Some places have natural gas. Some are all electric. But houses with existing oil heat aren't that much of a concern to buyers if they can get the house they want in an area they want at a price they can live with. Solar has been catching on around here as well.

All oil furnaces heated homes were converted to electricity decades ago in Central Washington State. Our electricity is far less expensive than oil, natural gas, or propane.

Many of the home heated by oil have gone to dual fuel. Where a heat pump is installed and when the temperature goes below 32 the oil heat kicks in. Oil heat is by far the best heat you can have in a cold weather climate.

Most homes in our area in Connecticut are heated by oil, so not a great deal of choice. Some older homes (60's, 70's) are heated by electricity since it was cheaper when they were built. Very few homes have natural gas; we use propane for kitchens and pools.
