Well, North Carolina is in the top 30 at #28. And I'm surprised. With 120 people moving  to Charlotte alone each day, I would think NC would be higher up on the list, just as Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate said about Florida.

Illinois is at 25 and Florida at 34. Not sure, having lived in both and currently in Chicago, of the accuracy of thus survey! If not for the grandkids, I would be  in number 34 and thinking it was close to number 1.

I would guarantee you that California is the number one state in our nation to live in and it's people are happiest.  Sure, the grass is always greener on the other side of the road.  Many that have left can't afford to come back here so they badmouth us instead.

I don't know - that list of "happy" states looks suspect to me. They have Illinois at 25 . . . and yet:

The Allied Magnet States report shows Illinois had the highest percentage of outbound residents in 2021, more than any other state. The report analyzes moves by Allied Van Lines customers and home-value data from Zillow to provide moving and housing trends.

Such reports are playgrounds of deception. 
However, Utah, a state with a large population of faith, a faith that REQUIRES servitude towards others and self-reliance, does not surprise me to top the list.
Whereas a state whose entire existence depends on disproportionate representation at the taxpayer bacon factory to be the least happy. Byrd and Mansion brought a lot of bacon the WV but all that bacon did not create a population of citizens finding life worthwhile.
