FWIW, Reports received, no violations to community standards noted.

Not liking something isn't cause for removal.  Opinions will differ and in general as long as everyone keeps it civil, it will stand as is.

Defund the police.

Catch and Release programs with the prosecutors.  Riots and destruction called mostly peaceful riots.

With the poll numbers continually decreasing ... watch the narrative change.

Defund the police, no cash bail, and failure to prosecute are not pandemic related.

NO. The pandemic has not increased crime. There are a lot of things that make it look like crime has increased, including courts who are letting anyone being arrested go home, and including police being told not to arrest anyone.

The pandemic is not to blame.

NO!  It has to do with defunding police etc.  Most people that I know felt safer during the pandemic

I don't think it was the pandemic, it was the defund the police movements more than anything.

I felt safer during the pandemic due to lower crime rates and less public exposure and smaller numbers on the streets. Crime actually dropped during the pandemic here in SD. Property crimes are climbing back slowly vs. violent crimes. A lot of that is porch pirate and break-ins.

figure - Reported violent and property crimes are now similar to pre-pandemic levels

It is foolish to think there is any one thing that causes something as broad as an increase in crime.  The world does not operate in a bubble.  Everything affects everything.

I do not. It is the trend to see the criminal as a victim that is the problem. Defunding police, lack of respect for police, not prosecuting crimes, no cash bail are the root cause of the problem.

No, I think the crime rate is exacerbated by the number of gang members and criminals crossing our borders. Crime will also cause movements of people escaping cities and looking for Real Estate in less inhabited areas

It seems like theft has picked up. We're pretty low crime here. I've been hearing about people having their car windows broken and items stolen while visiting parks etc.

I'm not sure the pandemic has increased crime nearly has much as inflation and it will be more increase in both in the next few years.

No, the pandemic did not create the increase in crime, but releasing convicted felons with the pandemic cited as the reason has and will continue to have long term effects.

In San Francisco you can smash a car windshield, steal a thousand dollar purse, hit someone over the head with concrete and it is not treated as a crime. Son and nephew there sold nice cars to have a junker looking car after MANY smash break ins and the police will not come. SF Board of Supervisors hold the purse strings. Politics increased crime in SF. In Dana Point where I live now crime decreased as people stayed home for the first ten months, now crime back to normal as everyone is out.     To answer about "the pandemic" itself increasing crime: COVID made everyone fearful, it made us not hug, it made us disconnected from community. The way information is doled out also increased crime (social media, lack of a real paid free press, and powers that want to tell us what to believe.  Will it revert to lower levels? All things change, are ready to hold hands again and make positive change?

Excuses, denials, lengthy explanations, comeback (shrewd) comments & defenses (arguments) love having the pandemic to show-off in. The reason I am not able to do or not do xxxxx is the pandemic? People with all sorts of agendas will show themselves. My favorite: You need ongoing, anti-pandemic booster shots is now part of our daily living. Who is behind that?
