Hi Aura. You are technically supposed to "reply" to any comments on your own post. This keeps the conversation togther. (i.e. your reply is threaded right below their comment). However, you will see many on AR that always make replies in separate comments. The reason is so that they can @tag the person that they are replying to in order to notify them. You can @tag somebody in a reply, however, the system does NOT notify them. Yes, it is kind of broken (for now, devs are aware of this).
Meanwhile, when you do a reply in a separate comment, you do get points for that. You are not supposed to get points for your replies, but it just sort of works out that way (for now, if you do the separate comment thing).
PS - this also messes up the "comment count" - you essentially will double the number of comments on a post (half of which are not comments but replies)
PPS - you do NOT need to subscribe to comments on your own post. The system automatically notifies you of comments on your own posts. You can subscribe to comments on other people's posts if you are interested in following a particular post topic conversation

Yes, the response has to be 10 words not less, and 20 commentsa day is the maximun for point count..  Each comment is worth 25 points

yes you get points if you "comment" instead of reply.  I tag people so they can see my reply.

There is a minimum number of words that count for a comment, but you should get credit for your comments and others' comments.

Hi Aura- Craig Daniels gave a wonderful explanation. Life would be easier if we could respond to someone's comment on our post below the comment but as he said,  if you tag them they will not be notified.This is why I reply in separate comments so I can tag someone.
