We own the rights to it as long as we continue to pay taxes.
And our children wait in the wings to inherit it 😲🤣

You still have your bundle of rights with a duty to pay taxes, unless of course one is an exempt entity specified such as a hospital, charitable, scientific, or religious, etc. entity.

Property taxes pays for services where your property is located. You get to keep the equity buildup. Someone who rents your house doesn't get either. Renting might sound less complicated to many people but in the end, you have nothing to show for it. And no writeoffs.

Yes, you do own the home. Taxes are the price we pay to have that home in a particular county. HOAs can also foreclose on a house for non-payment of dues. We've bought a few of those over the years.

Yes, you own. Taxes are payment for local services, e.g. schools, police, roads, snow removal and so on.

Well you are receiving benefits that you use within your community which is what your taxes are used for.
You own the house free & clear except for those taxes.

Do you ask the same question in regard to a car with no loan against it, for which you hold the ownership papers or certificate, but you still have to pay a licensing fee, Richie Alan Naggar?

Of course you do. What have you purchased using your credit card today? LOL are those not your items that you purchased? You're simply using OPM and you're going to pay for it and the longer it takes the more you will pay. Welcome to America!

Yes you still own. But I am looking forward to when I reach the age of 65+ in Texas. Where I can qualify to defer property taxes.
What the hell do I care if my family has to pay my back taxes. They still get a great deal for paying nothing --- LOL

We can accept that we will never be free of taxes, unless we learn to cheat like the ubber rich do, or give up all possessions and live very simply in a tent in the woods.

Which is why, in my opinion, we must take elected officials to task on ensuring those tax dollars are put to benefit everyone and provide a return on the investment of home owners.
That said, I'd prefer to have no taxes on real estate as it is true there's no true ownership of the land, just a more beneficial leasehold in reality. That said, you can demolish your home or leave it in whatever state you'd like, and the right to do that belongs solely to those owning the structure.

I own my house and still have a mortgage. And yes, will always have taxes. But I pay those things and own my home vs. renting and someone else owning it.

Yes, we really own it but obligations are continuing. Real estate taxes, HOA dues, the cost of maintenance and insurance need to be included in the budget.
