Place them on a table next to the tub. There are so many accessories available ... endless possibilities.

Small spa table by the tub? You're right, you have to have something by it.

I do remember a client who had a stand-alone tub installed and she said she used it all of the time. She had a small chest by the tub with loofahs, towels and oils & soaps.

Hi Joan... there are trays you can hang on the side of  the tub to hold those items. They are often called bathtub caddies and come in all styles, shapes, material. I quite like the look of them. I have a built in tub and don't keep anything on the side except some decorative items.

A fan of big showers and no tub, but some require a fancy bathroom with a stand alone tub. Get a little soap stand. Good luck shopping!

Our last home had a great bath and we used it all the time.  This place, the bathtub sucks so, only showers.  The next house will have a stand alone tub again.

My friend has a small table with two or three shelves on it.   It's wrought iron or steel or something, the shelves are like grates so it vents.   She also has towel rings on the wall within reach of the tub.

* More info:   When my friend was buying, "Claw foot tub" was on her wish list.  She wanted a charming old house with a large front porch.  I found it, a 1940's house in Chattahoochee Florida (about 45 miles west of Tallahassee off Interstate 10).

That house is made entirely of cypress, except the heart of pine floors.  It was built in the days before central heat and air; it is so well vented.  High attic (you can stand up in that attic), off-grade sitting on brick pillars.  The windows start about 18 inches above the floor and go almost to the 9 foot ceiling.  It's so easy to get a breeze blowing through that house!  Central heat/air was added somewhere back in time, but she rarely uses it.

That's a good question Joan. We'll probably be redoing our bathroom in 2022 and will take out the garden tub and opt for a free standing tub. I don't use it a lot so I suppose we'll have to keep those items in a cabinet and pull them out when needed. I have seen some build a shelf (usually with tile or marble that matches or coordinates with the shower) next to the tub. I don't think we're going to do that.

A stand alone tub is for indulging, not bathing. There's a stand alone shower for that.
The bubble and scents, candles and the hand-crafted tray for the glass of wine, cheese, book and cell with a remote control to turn on the 'DO NOT DISTURB' sign over the entrance. A little soft jazz and all the pieces are in place to drift away.

I would use a bar/tray across the tub -- something that would complement the rest of the bathroom.

Most people don't actually use those tubs. The ones that are used are the more functional, built-in ones, used for bathing children and yes, with spaces for bath stuff.

Nowadays, most of my clients want a big shower. It's nice to have a tub, but it gets used so seldom. Personally, if I want to sit in hot water, I use the hot tub at the club. And that's pretty much every morning after a swim.
