I love my numbers.  I look at them as much as I look at my bank account summary.  But I can always work with my numbers in finer detail than any index so I keep them all inperspective.  

To say that some market is up 25 % is a big stretch since all real estate is local and certain sectors would jump more than other others.  Just saying.  

Yes I know the numbers and it's been one wild ride for awhile now. Oddly enough Sun City West is the fastest appreciating town.  I watched this happen as we've had mulitple clients looking there the last 8 months and holy smokes....... it was crazy with many bids. I honestly wouldn't be buying out there right now.  Way overpriced.  I'm glad our folks got in early on in this game and bought at a reasonable and fair price.

Whether working with buyers or sellers, it is mandatory to have an understanding of your market. Do I know my numbers! Duh!

Yes, but because my broker/wife tracks them.  We were up 22%  over August 2020.  

I follow the numbers in the communities I typically service and write monthly market reports and have for years. I look at other data/reports from our AOR and MLS, too but don't always report it. I make no predictions about appreciation.

I follow our numbers very closely. We are up almost 24% this year alone on top of the 25% last year.

I follow them every month & usually do a report. I never guess/estimate on the appreciation numbers like they do. Every month in our MLS we can see year over year.

Not in detail since I retired but do follow the trends. Downtown Chicago condos have been unique for the last 18 months with supply hitting over 2 years for some time. The rebound is growing in strength.

We HAVE to know our numbers - forward and backward! What many say the 'FEEL' in a market is so far off from what the numbers actually are.

We need to be educated so we can educate our communities.

Absolutely, I keep track of the new listings, pending, price reductions and total listings every single day.  Also do the market report monthly for the Denver metro area, and know those numbers monthly.

Looking out for #1 you had better know all of your numbers and then some. Real estate is one business where the game never ends therefore having current figures on the tip of your tongue will generally keep you in the lead.

However, knowing my numbers are not that terribly important.
What is MORE important in knowing what numbers the other side of the table is using. They often won't show their hand until you demonstrate you know what they know......even if its FALSE.
The seller HEARS 25% and the buyer hears 'sell the first born" to get a down payment. IF me as an agent am unable to acknowledge the voice in their head, they won't hear mine.

Don't know, don't care, never have and never will.  The numbers I need to know is how much I spend and how much I make.

Numbers can be very useful, but can also be misused or manipulated. Trends can be interesting.
