We know from experience that many people think real estate is easy money especially when houses are flying off the market. The bar to entry into this business is quite low. Many will get their licenses and many of them will fail to renew when their first license expiration comes up.

The total number...I don't know or care. The number is quite enough to cause confusion among the home selling and buying public and is a leading cause of the low esteem many in the public sector have for real estate agents.

I have no clue... I'm actually more interested in the number of realtors and agents who drop out of the business each year compared with those that enter the business before leaving a year later.

In almost every business, 20% of the people do 80% of the business.  Real estate agents like to make a big deal out of this, but it is actually true in most professions. 

If someone wants to be in the business and do three sales a year, that is fine with me.  If someone else wants to do 300 sales a year, that is also fine with me.

I don't need to guess, it's always Sales exceeded REALTORS*, been like that in CA my entire career. The average REALTOR* sells 4 houses per year and 40%+ in CA sell o% annually. I work hard to remain in the top 5% in San Diego and the top 20% in CA.

I think it is over 60K in Arizona which is so crazy, my guess would be over 300K across the country but I am likely even guessing low.  My original thought was too many bad agents, haha.

This is getting annoying it's being shared so much.  This shouldn't be surprising to anyone in our industry, and I wish they'd stop writing about it.

 

SO many "Realtors" have a license but sell no homes, and don't help people buy homes.  Investors get their license for MLS access, others get licensed as a hobby/side gig to help family/friends when they need to move - there are SO many reasons to get a real estate license outside of doing real estate for a living.

 

If anything, I think the picture this paints is that it's all but pointless to even have licensing.  Hell, even when you point out blatant misconduct half the time there are no repurcussions.

Hmmm over a million for sure....maybe 1.5M?   After taking a look at the article I'd say it's very tough for new agents to compete in multiple bid situations in a hot market.  They have no idea of how to win bids for the most part.
