When the affects of COVID crate a potentially homeless situation, those who are desparate will grab for the faitest ray of hope so their family can sleep under a roof.
There is the tradgedy.
The hardest hit never get a break.
The greedy however, chasing the 'too good to be true' get schooled.

I don't deal with long-term rentals much at all, but when I do I am always surprised by how many scams are still out there. The long-term rental game is such a mess and has been for a very long time. I feel bad for those that choose to move from one long-term rental to another year after year rather then buying something themselves and settling down.

It amazes me how many people fall for these. I've had to put signs up at listings noting that they're not for rent and have said the "If it sounds too good to be true" phrase too many times to count. Unreal...

When something sounds to good to be true, there is a reason! So many warnings get so little attention.

This is believably unbelievable that people to not do more vetting ... trust but verify.
Unfortunate. And so sad for her and others that are taken by these scams.

These have been going on for years, following the same pattern as listed above. People really need to learn to look for the listing elsewhere or to contact the agent directly. When my listings and rentals have been used like this in prior years, people drove by and saw the sign was different than what was on craigslist and called directly.

Jeff,
This is the story of human nature! There is nothing new about it, and people just do not listen no matter how many ways they are told. A

It's a little early for these scams isn't it? Usually in May when everyone wants to move at once.

We put a sign in the window of all of our rentals to warn people of potential scams and ask them to call us of they have seen a CL scam on the property.

As long as there are those who are willing to succumb to a scam, there will be scammers.
