We are big on recycling.  We have separate trash, recycle, and yard trimming bins.

We recycle paper, glass, plastic, cardboard, etc and the bins are provided for us. In fact, our recycle bin is often heavier than our trash.

We have a very active recycling program in our area. There is a website with directions, special bins for each home and we have pick ups every Thursday. The City also has a bulk pick up service for large items like appliances, furniture, etc.

yes it's mandatory in a single fam situation handled thru the refuse company. I personally do not think what we are currently doing is working or there wouldn't be a gazillion tons floating in the ocean.

I would think by now that we could just 'nuke' it, 'blow it to atoms' but I guess no one wants to.

We should give the  task to Elon Musk & he'll have it handled in a 1/2 hour.

Absolutely - all the local villages provide large or small bins that are emptied weekly. They take plastic numbered from 1-5 and 7. Nothing black. And no plastic bags - they have to be handled separately.

Yes, I recycle.

City does not mandate it.

But if we choose to, we receive a separate bin for recycling.

Not yet fully sold on the efficacy of recycling. I keep hearing how we are running out of room for recycled items. Nonetheless I do it "just in case."

I am SOOOO EFFIN PISSED that our City no longer has recycling! It is tragic. I asked our trash providers if there is a paid alternative . . . nope. ARGH

I do recycle and here in Manchester NH, the city offers single stream recycling where all recycling material goes into one large bin which is picked up weekly.

I live in a hirise in downtown Chicago and we have a recycling program. There are instructions posted by the garbage chute on each floor. I am beginning to see how poor our Chicago schools really are since most people can't read!

We recycle.  Our town doesn't mandate it but we have the big garbage can for single stream recycling.  I've often wanted to follow the contents on their journey to see what really happens...  #cynical.

Yep, got the big blue bin.
I do recycle.
The processor revealed they can't sell the stuff since China stopped buying.
Guess where the stuff from the blue bin is going?
You may have heard this before...EVERYONE is LYING.  But it's a lie married to a its hard to not be a fan.
It really matters not a whit what WE do but it does matter to varify the whole of the recycle chain. Or not. Sometimes its better not to know.

PS: not long ago the city was throwing it all in the same truck. But all those Ring Doorbell cameras exploded the rightious indignation of the citizen who is recycling. So, the city does today run two trucks.

Fred, recycling aluminum is definitely worthwhile,  but I suspect plastic may not be.   Plastic isn't recycled as much as we believe it to be.  This may be a result of the difficulty in recapturing energy costs.  It's not nearly as efficient or productive as aluminum;  plastic tends to be recycled into much lower value items like carpet fibers, and new plastic items are actually less expensive to make.

Still, we are provided bins for recycling and we comply.

We recycle. It is not mandatory. We bring to the transfer station and as a resident it is free. Now, if I have curbside recycling it's $13/mo. Recycling works but not enough people do it

We recycle as much as we can. The local Waste Management/Connections takes many plastic species, and used motor oil.

I've refurbished a Chipper/Shredder or two for yard-waste.

Yes, we do recycle, and I do find it offensive how much stuff people keep buying just to put it into a landfill.

Better to buy durable items, and recycle as much as possible.
