As I understand it, the N-95 mask is not necessary for everyone. Other face-coverings may be recommended or required per local/state authorities.

We have a construction company and bought these in bulk for work in old houses.
However our supply is nearly gone after giving them out to friends and staff.
Others are making them, rip up old clothes and find a person with a sewing machine.
A few that I know are just tying a rag around their head.

Will,
I have no idea, and our governor predicted an end to this on May 15th...It is not required in California except for the food vendors, grocery stores, farmers market, etc. It is voluntary! In case someone requires it, I have a couple of silk scarves in our car and a pair of gloves for each one of us. Good luck. If you get one be sure to really clean it after each use...they get stinky and create bacteria. A

Will, order now and next shipment should go out week of May 4th. Probably just as good as N-95 for most people and can be washed up to 30 times. Pack of 5 is $20.00. Go to https://www.buckmason.com/pages/face-masks-for-america

Perhaps the Public Health Department or find out if any of your past or present clients are making masks Will. A bit of caution...DO NOT buy them from China! The hardest hit place in America recently received 1.2 million masks MADE IN CHINA. The place that gave us COVID-19 and also gave us SARS!!!

You don't need one. Use a bandanna or make one from a towel/etc.
It's all a placebo anyhow. None of it will truly protect you.
The main reason to wear one is to limit your exhale/cough/sneeze in public.
It's to protect others, not you.

I wouldn't recommend trying to find N95s as our medical professionals need them FAR more than we do. However, as the CDC recommends, make one out of a bandana or other cloth material.
Double up on the cloth if you'd like or add a coffee filter between your face and the cloth material. That will serve the same purpose and allow the more snug-fitting N95s to be used by your area medical teams.

Will, if you don't specifically need to wear one, I would certainly tell you to not get one. I had to wear one today to see my mother in her assisted living facility and it was miserable. It was for HER safety, not mine. Keep that in mind. These masks protect others from you. You only need that level of seal around your mouth if you are helping someone who is high risk.

Unless you are donating them to medical providers - hospitals no one should be attempting to get them. The supply is too low to take them away from those who need them ... the front line people under the noses of infected patients.

A N95 mask is a "critical supply" and not intended for the general public. Use a cloth face mask in those situations you deem it necessary.

Hi Will,
You don't need to buy a face mask. You can easily make one simply by folding a scarf or other fabric. Adding the coffee filter is an extra layer of filtering protection.

I was in a paint store that was my main supplier a couple of days ago. They have not been able to get any masks of any kind for over three weeks (not even replacement cartridges for respirators). They can't even get access to the distribution system. I imagine that there are a lot of painters doing work unprotected.

Use a home made cloth mask. It will meet your needs.
You may wish to have several since they need to be washed after each use.

N95 is meant for medical professionals working in the hospital. A surgical mask will work. Professionals argue it is not 100% proof, some Asian countries use surgical mask as the only defense with great results. Many heavily populated countries can not have American invention, social distance, and surgical mask is the only thing protecting them. One can eat a restaurant behind a shield which says " No talking". Schools are open in some coutntries with a cardboard shield on each desk.

These are needed by emergency personal and the general public is pleaded with not to take away the supply.
