I have closed at a Dunkin Donuts. Closed on a clients desk in her work as her boss would not let her off. Yesterday was my first post virus closing. The closer dressed in Hazmatt attire. The seller signed by mail and buyer sat flinging papers across the table.

Any closing I've been at has always been in a conference room at a table. This week's closings will be in my car, alone & waving to my clients when they're done executing the docs 6 ft from their attorney, one at a time.

On the hood of a car. It was a short sale and sellers really were not too accommodating thus closer came to the house and we literally signed in the drive way while sellers were still moving stuff out of the house.

I don't have any interesting stories about closing locations since in NY we always did them in an attorney's office with everyone present. When I signed my closing papers to purchase my land in Montana, the notary came to my house and we signed at my dining room table. That's my most interesting closing.

Back in the day before electronic signatures, purchase agreeements(contracts) have been signed in some interesting locations(hoods of cars, restaurants and such) but nothing awkward for closings. In Southern California, escrow officers handle the closing process and gemerally, as a group, they seem to have a history of being well-coordinated even in times that don't seem so normal.

Had a closing last week at a house in a very remote area.. less than a 100 people rural area. Notary on board and done in shifts. Distance back and forth like a dance, did not touch anything, everyone has their own pen and the bottle of sanitizer going in, washing hands vigorously coming out. Done in less than 10 minutes.
Then to save mileage and time went off to drive into a lake cottage, found the hidden key, paced off dimensions inside and out and made notes of each room. Then shot images, shot video loops, studied deed and found boundary lines, put up sign and did the same process with two more different lake waterfront properties. The other two drove in to a point and heathy walk in and out. Spent the day all alone, listening to BBC, CBC, NPR and other news channels traveling between new property listing process. Out of state owners, information from registry and town office retrieved electronically. Bumped into no one. Neighboring properties on lake empty and closed for season.
Brought a lunch and excited to one by one get three new listings in the pipeline. In small rural areas, there are way less people to worry about catching something. And we make sure to reach out with safety measures to help them get everything they need. Small communities are intimately connected and often you are distantly related to most.
In real estate it is A to Z you the agent or broker do it all and don't come into contact with many layers of players. Stage, media collection, put up the sign. Me, myself and I army of one. List it, sell it, one attorney (repeat) over and over. Is it like that where you live? Over the years lots of cash sales, bag of money. Everyone helps count it. One time enough travelers checks for a cash purchase that took an afternoon to endorse... buyer was getting divorced, did not want to carry cash, spent a fortune on traveler's checks to get funds away from the wife running away to Maine.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS I am a NNA Certified Signing Agent and many of the title companies are suggesting we do curbside signings. I refuse. Besides recent temps below zero (highs in the 40's at very best) we usually have 10 to 30mph winds and I'm not about to chase paperwork across the neighborhood. I have my dignity and there best be a table or desk in front of me or they can find someone else to close the loan.

not sure that you can get 6 feet apart in a normal size car even if caddy corner. 6 ft is much further than more people realize.

Have crossed the state line to sit with client at the bank with a Notary to close the transaction. She did not travel or do online communication. Also, I close all my transactions across the state as well. It's the least I can do for clients who have put their trust in me.
