I worry that one 'infected' cashier can take out an entire community of seniors!

I'm right there with you, Richie Alan Naggar ... but right now my wife and I are trying to help even more with my mom's situation in all of this.  At 94, she certainly (even if her thankfully good health and physical condition) is not going anywhere to shop, etc.  Pleading my mom's age/case yesterday, my wife was able to secure some rationed items in larger number.  Thankfully encountered a commonsense and big-hearted employee at our local grocery store.  I see the wisdom of offering these types of benefits for seniors ... but there's just a few things that it also creates challenges for ...

Yes, senior discounts are nice (from what I've been told).  I've gotten them via early bird prices at delis and such, when everyone who eats before 5 (or 530 or 6) gets a reduced price.

Hi Richie- I'm never excited about being reminded that I'm a senior. Personally, I don't think I want to go shopping when everyone else my age is shopping because we'll all be shopping for the same things.

I'm not into that.... but I DO take my senior discount for my cappuccino every morning....but in return I leave a $1 tip for a $3.72 cappuccino....

I'll buy my own goods....until I can't afford to buy them....both eyes will be closed at that point.

I'm glad they got their priorites right, good for you . I've been dropping off supplies to a couple home-bound seniors because neither drive. It's fun to see my tribe taking turns caring for them. This experience will reveal one's true character. I'm proud of my friends, neighbors and associates thus far.

"Is 62 a senior?"
"Yes"
Okay thank you! Through the door.

Across the street . . . "We have to card anyone who looks under 40."
Okay thank you!

And at the grocery store . . . the seniors almost all were just buying a few things. I'm glad they're doing it this way. And I cannot WAIT till karma kicks some hoarder/gouger asses! Our stores are instituting a NO RETURN on paper products! And the online portals are clamping down.

Not sure I am ready to start accepting the perks or reality of being a senior, but it is being forced on me a little more each year.

My wife does the shopping that is necessary to keep food on the table during this period of shelter-in-place. She has not found it necessary to shop "senior hours" or play the senior card.

Who knows what the future holds?

Not something I've felt the need to take advantage of.  I am alert and physically able to manage without the privilege of doing so during a senior window of time.

Those that need it - AMEN!

More seniors need help getting their essentials.

possibly, someone said that when they open for seniors at 6am that is when all the meat, etc is brought out. After that - you are on your own which doesn't really seem right.

I think it is a good thing that they are letting seniors shop first so they are able to get what they need in this time of crisis. They are not able to run down aisle or move as fast as they need to when people are lining up to get in stores. I am sure this is a very stressful time for them.

Glad they got the priorities straight.

Also, here in NY State, you can be excused from Jury duty.  On the radio they mentioned this a few months ago when an 80 year old woman said to the room, "Age has its privileges."

The stupid thing is that they are still required to go in (I guess to validate their age)

Richie,

We find it crazy that people are prone to hoarding in the land of plenty...I have seen that in all age groups.  And it is sad to me that seniors are the new elite.  A

Seniors are the biggest population on a inflexible fixed income.

Everything that raises cost has a great affect on those with fixed incomes. Healthcare insurance companies are preying on the population without mercy.

That, I believe should be the greater consideration fixed-income.

Now, "Get off my grass!"
