I used to do it all the time with pizza Will Hamm . I would only do it if it's delivered by the restaurant itself. There is a food delivery service in Minot that I'd NEVER use as they wait til they have enough orders to "make it worth their time" and thus you often get cold food.

We only do delivery for pizza and since we use local well established pizza places, I would continue to have them deliver. I have not (and probably never will) use Uber Eats or any of those other new services that have popped up...heard too many bad things about them.

Even before the virus, I did not order food via a delivery service. In my rural area, no one delivers, not even the pizza places.  Which suits me fine. If we lived in a delivery area, I would not use the service. Just not my preference.

That's how they do it in China, in their hazmat suits and with certificates as to the temperature of the person who prepared the food and the person who delivered it. Crazy.

My wife, a school teacher, stopped by the office on her way home from work yesterday with a cupcake that a kid had brought for a birthday treat and gave it to me.

After a day of interviewing applicants I felt it wise to wash my hands with a bit of Purell before opening the cupcake.

Then it occurred to me...

  • do any of the kids or their families have CoronaVirus?
  • did they wash their hands every time they touched this?
  • did the person who prepared the cupcake wash their hands?
  • did anyone sneeze on or near this either at the school, or the bakery, or somewhere in between?
  • do people in restaurants wash their hands often enough?
  • do they sneeze?
  • do customers at restaurants ever sneeze while food passes by their tables?
  • so many questions that may make us afraid to ever eat again.

I thought about it for a few minutes,

then ate the cupcake.

Now if I get sick, we may have a clue as to what happened.

The Coronavirus, according to all sources I've read, is not transmitted by food. If your fear is that the delivery person will have the virus, I don't think that's more likely than if the people you meet in the grocery store or restaurant have the virus.

Those who 'think' it is blown out of proportion don't know if it is or not. Those who 'think' it is not blown out of proportion don't know if it is or not. Making choices like this should not be done using political views. The truth is, no one knows how bad this is going to get, so jumping to conclusions with no data available to make a rational decision is premature at best, dangerous at worst.

We order take out all the time and your friend will be able to increase his output/income stream without adding seating capacity. With the dui laws this is the way of the future. Home delivery is something your frind can try as an experiment fairly inexpensively. Just be sure to try it long enough for it to catch on and advertise it heavy at first.

In fact, I wrote a blog about it, after doing extensive research. Please don't let the media do to you what they're doing to SO many, Will. It's total BS!

Restaurants here are open for pickup and/or delivery & we take a break from cooking at home & order out 1 or 2 nights a week. We call ahead, pay ahead & pick up the food. When you get there you can park curbside, call them to let them know you're out there, pop the trunk & they'll stick it in there for you. I haven't had anything delivered.

Delivery services in the TAMPA BAY area have reported a 10 fold increase in the use of their service.

The perfect storm for such services. It is the dream of all business owners that the citizen just 'give them a try' and the owner will WOW them with product or service.

Home Depot and Lowe's make a fortune when a hurricane is headed for the coast. Now we can see, this applies to many other businesses when 'crisis' is in the headline.

We only order pizza for take out. Anytime I've had other food delivered from the restaurant, Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc., there's always something missing (usually my entree), LOL or the order is wrong. So not in the past or in the future due to poor experiences unrelated to COVID-19.

Probably too late of an answer to be useful- but you can get anything delivered in NYC- and we do expect as much. I recall waiting overnight for free tickets for Shakespeare in the Park (Central Park) featuring Al Pacino- and someone had Pizza delivered on the line in the middle of the park.  No matter how hard this hit my hometown- nothing is going to scare me away.

I don't go to restaurants or have food delivered. I went to a restaurant in the old days, paid $100 for a meal, then when I didn't finish, I took the remaining home. The next day, my wife jeeped the steak and it was better than the night before! Cooking is not a skill but an art and my wife has it. As far as the virus, the media always overblows everything important, but that is normal. However it doesn't mean that the seriousness of the virus is overblown. Take it serious and do what is recommended and with common sense. Hearing about it every day on the news is a bit much, but that is their job. If they talk about it less people would think it's not important anymore and that would cause more problems. Stay safe everyone!!
