It's important but not as important as one may think. It's really different for everyone

Each person will have their own idea of how important it is...there are agents who just hang their license with a broker and never even meet him or her. One agent admitted that she would not know her broker if she passed him on the street.

My broker needs to be a model of integrity, provide value through various avenues such as continued education and offer an attractive split. So...yes...the relationship is very important.

that would be me. But my former broker from the 90s was like a dad to me and certainly a mentor.

It's important that I trust my broker. It's helpful if I also like him/her.
The answer to your question will vary based on an agent's experience level. Newer agents depend on their broker far more.

I was never the suck up brokers needed their agents to be ... that is among the many reasons I went independent in 2012. I've been flying solo ever since and never - not once ever - have I looked back.
I love my relationship with my broker. She is the bomb! She will not let anyone or anything harm her clients. No throwing clients under the bus just to "close the deal" as many principal brokers expected when affiliated with a big box brokerage.

You are his/her stepping stone to their success. If you are unsuccessful start looking around.

You should select a broker who can meet your personal needs.

Genesis ~ I am in a fairly large company, about 350 licensees, so the Principal broker for the firm isn't as important to me as the broker in my office. Having a freat relationship with the office broker is critical to anyone's career in my opinion, because that is the person you lean on when need help with a problem/question.

As a new agent, your relationship with your managing broker is critical to the success of your career.
Less important as a mature agent... but still important.

It is important but...
The broker will (or should) have your back when issues come up
None of us are Real Estate Gods and your broker can assist you as a sounding board and with ideas
Why would you want to work with/for someone you dont like or respect...that will poison the work atmosphere and your production
If you are a so called "top producer" your broker may be more interested in you than the other way around and ergo you may have more freedom
Finally, in my experience, a broker should not be merely a figure head but a LEADER (one problem in the US today too many managers and few leaders)as such helps you set goals and expectations, a bit of a cheerleader a disciplinarian (as needed) and a built in excuse should you need to buy time to consider or get information without looking bad ("Id like to discuss that with my broker and get his (her) opinion and get back to you)

I am much more concerned about broker integrity than broker relationship.. although I do very much want a healthy and positive broker relationship and yes, this is important to me.. even if I do not rely much on the broker for my success.

Depdnds upon what you need from them. If you are someone who needs a lot of attention, then shop for one that is very hands on with business. If not, don't worry about it.
