A former charge nurse I used to work with told us once what she used to tell nurses who transferred in from another facility/company: "Well this is how we do it here.  Do it our way for a month and if you still think your old way is better, let me know and we'll evaluate changing our procedures."

Now looking at your more detail section, when I was at the hospital Osamacare's "electronic medical record" mandate kicked in.  Many older doctors had trouble with it and would rather treat patients than fiddle with computers.  They either hired on a young doctor who did all the data entry or they retired.  These were really good doctors who treated the root cause, not just prescribed pills.  I can definitely say that the EMR decreased the quality of care people received.  Plus it made your records accessible to hackers, so it put your safety and privacy at risk.

I still keep and routinely use paper forms.  Used one three nights ago to write an offer up.  Something more "real" about it and that we had "official state forms" made the seller much more comfortable.

As AnnaBanana recently brought up and in the immortal words of Steven Tyler, if you do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got - could that be nothing?

I find folks stuck in the box I'm thinking out of to be too low vibe for me. And what I probably would say is 'K, BYE'

If you're not stretching, not growing, you're also probably not living your best life.

Some things ain't broken, but how will you know if you don't try?

We used to get nurses in from another local hospital who wanted the pay but, hated training and working with the residents. It took an act of Congress to make changes. A few would moan, "Well, we did it this way at _____ (the other hospital)."

Many of us on MANY occasions would retort, "Well, perhaps you should go back to ____ (the other hospital)!"

In RE, what we typically hear with new agents moving from another brokerage - 'This is why I'm here!' - Rarely ever do I hear that they liked something better at another company. I would certainly evaluate to see if what they are using is superior and if the change would truly make a difference in our agents' lives/businesses.

Me for one don't like change. In this business we have to be able to change our way of thinking, our way of marketing and other things.   I have been on the end of paperless docs for some time.  It is not a bad thing.  Saves the office and you paper and ink.  If they try it they will like it. We all like to save money, Right?    Just takes time to get use to using it.

My brokerage switched to paperless a few months ago. I know how to do it but still prefer the old way and most of my buyers and sellers are in the 55+ group. Some do not even have internet access or even an email account so it makes it harder.

And one would think going paperless would save time but it's the opposite. I now keep a full paper copy until escrow has closed and the commission have been paid.

I had a loan officer tell me this yesterday while I was training his branch --- he's a good LO with decent production but is stuck at a ceiling.

As he pulled 2 inch thick paper files out of a filing cabinet, he showed me his excel spreadsheet with lead follow up, his card board box full of Realtor business cards, etc ---- he's "always done it this way"

I showed him how he can use his CRM to integrate his follow ups, daily task lists, client engagement, business partner contacts, etc.  How he could use a secure, digital folder to replace all the paper files, and how he can streamline his day to free up more time for prospecting and marketing (the areas he struggles that are blocking him from taking his business to the next level)

If they say "I've always done it this way", I ask if they're exactly where they want to be - if the answer is no, I invite them to try to mix things up to see if it gets them closer to where they want to be.

I'm all for it but sometimes it is easier to just get the file to look for what you want. Just had to do this in Docusign with a closing statement. Took forever for me to find it.

I don't want to be an old fart - everytime we have some type of upgrade they get all up in arms. I like it, it's the way of the future.

I do not think it frees up time though. I do see some extra steps or time involved in things vs the old way.

Oh wow. Paperless has been around for almost a decade. There is so much more coming in terms of technology that they need to get with it. These people are going to be behind the times. Not to mention, it is great. When I read your question, it reminded me of a recent transaction where an agent was doing something wrong and said, my firm has always done it this way. I had to get a statement from my preferred closing attorney to get her to do it the right way. We have 3 or more people in our office who train for the Real Estate Commission. They do their best to keep us in shape and doing the right thing as we have changes every year. Sometimes, it is like pulling teeth to get someone to do things correctly or to do something new. Good luck!

The example you cite does not take into account the 'Done this way' person.

Clearly YOU see benefit in process, however conveying that vision takes skill more than judgment.

You have NOT conveyed the "What's in it for me?" value (to the person)  that inspires a desire to change.

Most often 'change' is a forced event.

Such as, contrary to most AR participants, I will stop reading the newspaper with my morning coffee when I can no longer get it delivered. I've always done it that way.

One example, when I first took my agent test in California. 1,000 of us sat in a room with a stack of paper in front of us and a pencil. It took awhile to get the results. Three years later, in 2009, I took my brokers test on the computer. So much less hassle and I got my "congratulations" that I'd passed before I left the examination room.  Now I take all my continuing education online which saves so much time. Another example, I don't know what I would do without Docusign when my clients are all over the place. Go back in time to endless paperwork, faxing, and traveling around to get "wet" signatures? No thank you. Oh, and a third example, when I needed proof of permits , no problem, it was all there online.  Need tax information and want to know who the neighbors are? Go to REALIST.
