Many in my family have served and some died serving in the military ... I honor every single one.  As a veteran, anything "military" gives me a sense of pride and respect ... All gave some and some gave all.

On this National Purple Heart Day may we bow our heads in silence and remember all who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us.

My husband's grandfather served in WWI and survived every major battle.  He received a great number of medals, was wounded in battle, but never got the purple heart due to wraping his wounds and continuing to fight. He was a tough guy at that time.

my uncle Johnny who died in Vietnam when I was 4.  And my husband is also a combat veteran with an injury, but no purple heart, but I'm very proud of his service.

I had a cousin, now deceased,  in the Marine Corps, Master Gunnery Sergeant, James Travers.  He served in the Korean Conflict and in the Vietnam War.  He had four purple hearts.

My next door Neighbor is also a purple heart recipient.

Yes and sadly, none survived to receive the award themselves. I am so appreciative to each and every man and woman who have served, whether they made the ultimate sacrifice or not - so that we can enjoy our freedoms.

I think Gary's Dad was given a purple heart in WWII.  He passed away long before I ever met Gary but I remember Gary talking about medals.

Not in my family.  My husband served in Viet Nam with many awards but not the Purple Heart.  In remembrance of all that did- Glad there is a day set aside for those special ones.

Many who did not earn medals did more for the country. They never got recognized. I know one who was wounded by own helicopter fire got a medal to run away from an ambush. The situation was so embrassing, his officer gave him a medal to cover up the poor leadership embarrasement.
