Yes, and it makes perfect sense. You can be in class, at work, at a wedding, anywhere really and text. It is fine. Everyone does it. However, picking up the phone requires you have to excuse yourself.  If you are at work, you would have to find a quite/private place. If you do find one, everyone thinks you're on a phone interview for another job.

I used to hate getting/sending texts. What a pain. But now I see the benefit - you can very quickly ask/answer a question, get some details taken care of while doing something else, reach someone who really doesn't want to have a conversation, get work done without anyone overhearing, etc.

So yes, I know people who text more frequently than talking.

I typically ask clients which form of communication they prefer.  I generally use email for routine status and transaction progress for an easy written record.

Calls are considered a little more invasive now as can be interruptive. Millennials set that standard some 10 years ago - text not call.  I reserve calls for critical or urgent issues followed by a text to confirm.  I agee with Julio, texting is just more convenient.  It's also less invasive and less time consuming, esp. for clients at work who cannot step away for a call.

Texting doesn't require a password for voicemail and it allows time to think thru your response in advance.  Lots of advantages to text.

Common of a lot of people. I try to use the appropriate form of communication depending on the message I am delivering & how that other person normally communicates with me. If I can send a text over a phone call & nothing's lacking I will.
