Oh wow! That seems like a 'nothing' breach but, then again, is that what the company wants put out there?
I'm confused but, hoping for the millions who are questioning this that your VP's information is the bare truth and there'snothing at all to worry about!

What the VP told you is different than what's stated on the article mentioned a couple days ago: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2019/05/first-american-financial-corp-leaked-hundreds-of-millions-of-title-insurance-records/
I don't believe most people that commented on the original question actually understand what happened.
Let's say you received an email from FATCO with the following link (made up example) to access your transaction:
https://www.firstam.com/transaction/?tid=00000123
If you typed in https://www.firstam.com/transaction/?tid=00000124, or https://www.firstam.com/transaction/?tid=00000125, or https://www.firstam.com/transaction/?tid=00000126, you would be able to access another person's transaction information.
See the problem now?
All a person had to do, was write a little computer program to access the initial page, then keep incrementing the number by one, and they would be able to access as many records as they wanted.
Chances are no one did it, but, who knows.

And now FATCO is being sued because of the potential breach of many transaction files. This Bloomberg article has details.
Really difficult to believe that this is STILL happening in 2019. I teach agents and other small businesses various ways to protect their clients' info and become as unhackable as possible.
And BTW, credit monitoring services are more about making money than about protecting you. LifeLock is particularly bad. I have a friend that has been compromised 3 times by people who had created false LifeLock accounts in her name. LifeLock told her there was nothing they could do about it. Yikes.

There is no such thing as cyber security.
However, our economy would circle the drain if the power people did not tell us "Don't worry. It's a little thing."
I remember handing the employees of EDS, their passwords and user names. They were solely in charge of enterprise software security.
There is no such thing as cyber security and the crooks are ALWAYS ahead. Now with CHINA embedding undetectable firmware in the products made there, cyber security is just the kook-aid the big boys want others to drink.
Do you remember when they said. "Only those doing bad things on the Internet need to worry about whose is watching you on the Internet."
This is more of the same. The first casualty of war, even cyber war, is truth.

Hi Dario Ferreira . I do believe the VP as he told me he was involved with the situation all weekend - as soon as the information became known. He reiterated that as far as they know, only 3 people had their security breached - the guy/client who did it and the two others he tested. They are working hard to make sure no one else had their information seen and will be offering all impacted the known ways to protect data in the future (i.e. Lifelock or other such subscriptions which monitor your credit).
