That scenario sounds like you were dealing with a parttime agent with a weekday job. 

Unless someone has let me know in advance that an offer is coming, my phone is turned off at 7:00pm. I don't do business after 7:00 pm unless I'm negotiating or unless someone has made an appointment in advance to speak with me. By the same token, I don't believe any one has ever kept me going much past 9pm on a negotiation.

The last call for me is 8 pm unless it is one of the kids or grandkids asking for money!

8:00 pm...I tell my 500+ agents only mistakes and buyer/seller withdrawals happen after that...as well as wine/beer may play a role to at least one party which is never a good thing...lastly Banks are not open to deposit escrow so let's stop this foolishness of working after 8:00 pm....and bring our industry back as Professionals and not Amateurs...and desperadoes..

The 'justification' (they are catching a flight in 45 minutes) is all BS.

If it's worth doing is worth scheduling. Chain jerks are never scheduled.

Typically my phone doesn't get answered after 9pm. I'm sound asleep at 10 unless something major is going on. 

My friends know the answer to this. If my phone isn't shut off at 7, just pretend it is cuz I'm not going to answer. Three exceptions.💖

As far as agents are concerned, I'm a commercial real estate office and my office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific time. For clients without boundary issues, I will take a call at 6:30 or 7 am. They know this. They also know that I will not take a call at 6:30 or 7 pm.

If an agent wants to call or text me late, they can but my phone will be silent.

And I will be happy to text them back at 5 a.m. so that when they wake up they will have the answer information that they seek. Hopefully they have their phone muted as well. 😈😇

On a Sunday it's around 6pm or so. M-F it's 7pm. It's the old, old days where agents want to 'hammer it out' into the wee hours of the evening. They can do it without me. 

9 p.m. unless I'm doing paperwork or there is an emergency

8pm ... nothing is so urgent that it needs to run into the middle of the night. There may be rare exceptions. 

7:00pm at night unless I am expecting a late call, otherwise it can wait until the next day. I give my all during set working hours and have a life outside of real estate. 

when I was actively working in real estate, I would shut it all down after 10:00pm.... and I would let the other agent know UP FRONT THAT if he/she wants a deal, make it happen before 10:00pm!!!

I see an agent working a deal that late as a 'tell' of weakness on part of either the agent or their client and the best strategy is to let them sweat.

Depends on what type business we're talking about... if I am negotiating  a deal I take/respond to pretty late calls & texts, 10, 10:30 no problem. If a client needs me & I'm awake they'll get a response. Most others requests can wait til the next morning. 

All business is not created equal.  There are elements of urgency involved and other things that can be left to a more suitable time.  Once again, it really depends.

9 pm is late enough for me, but it's rare for that to happen.

7PM and sometimes I'll extend it out to 8, but don't ask me to call you when I get up.  2-3AM most people are sleeping.

My phones is on sleeping time 10 pm to 9 am. I do have clients who can reach out late, but I asked everyone to text me first. I see texts on ipad/mac.

It depends on the situation, the people involved, the property and the time zone. 

If I'm negotiating, I'll go all night - there really are no time constraints. 

Lights-out for the phone is typically 9PM otherwise.

For contracts that do not specifically limit the time to 5:00PM as the end of the business day, unfortunately midnight is midnight. I limit responses to 5:00PM unless there are special circumstances.

All I know is if you're in the thick of it never, ever let 'em sleep on it. Agents included!

Boom boom out go the lights for me is bt 10pm and up at 5am. But the business never has "lights out" because the blogs, videos for open house and community information never stop. It depends (as Michael Jacobs would say). I have been up as late as 1 am negotiating, and up at 5 am for oversees buyers. Lights out varies!

Phones are on until the time my head hits the pillow

When in the business/deal mode, it is not over until it is and constant communications are vital. Agents are hired to get results therefore, holidays, sickness, excuses and delays are not allowed to the serious business person. I wonder how many clients/principals would love to hire "that" type of agent

Most nights it is 9pm. However like last night, we negotiated to almost 11pm and were so close i did not want to stop. i wanted it to work. AND some patience and good communication worked and got it under contract. 

9:00 pm no work calls 10:00 pm the phone goes into airport mode. OFF!

It usually ends aroung 6PM.  There are projects that may keep us up longer, but that is very rare.  A

depends on what client schedule is like.  I've had buyers/sellers that work nights and I of course will deal with them late into the evening. There are other clients I won't call until morning if it's after 2 pm  My hours are flexible, I put the clients schedule ahead of my own.  

My clients would have said "enough" by 8p at the latest.  As would have I.  I usually stop around 7/730.

Never pick up phone after dinner/

I think we all learn by trial and error what will work for us but we need to recognize what is infringing on personal and family time. If it feels uncomfortable, then it is too late.

9:30 PM for me.

There would be nothing on Sunday night that could not wait until Monday morning. That makes no sense. To me, it would depend, but family obligations would normally dictate ending at 6:00 p.m.

9 pm I do not answer my phone or text message if it is past 9 pm.  I am usually in bed by 9:30 every night as I am up with the chickens!

Flexible. Not extreme. Mostly reasonable.
