It is a high pressure job without matching reward!

They have a very challenging job in my opinion. They have to analyze a borrower financially, and determine how risky it would be for the investors to throw money into their project.

I will let a mortgage underwriter answer that question...if one is watching.

I have friends who are mortgage underwriters....and good ones!!!  they are very well protected from any abuse by agents.... they are sometime under pressure and other times, march to their own drummer....always looking for the "complete package"...

You need to ask a mortgage underwriter.

Essentially, a mortgage Underwriter is a forensic accountant who is bound by specific approval guidelines (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/VA, etc.). These Folks are supposed to simply "receive a file and let you know if you meet guidelines for approval." It's a highly skilled job, yet very stressful for the UW's in question. Imagine that on any day you come to work, you can be notified that a file you approved several months/years ago has gone into default, and that as part of an audit, it was determined that you missed something. You could literally lose your job on any day retroactive to a mistake made months/years ago. Pretty thankless job overall, but those who do it are unsung heroes.

Ask an underwriter...we are Realtors.

I am sure they like their job or they would not be doing it.  Just like being a Realtor-It is not for everyone.

Probably frustrating, trying to get all the pieces of required information from everybody so they can make an informed decision.

Very much the same as being a comptroller or being the manager of a asset recovery company or living in a long country like Chile.
