It's a service I typically provide for my sellers - basket of booties and a sign.

OMG...yes..... there are some floors that I wouldn't want new shoes to walk on because the shoes might be ruined...

It would be a professional courtesy to supply shoe covers. Even then, if the home is not clean, as you say "very dirty" there is no way I am removing my shoes.

Living in Arizona, we don't have to deal with as much bad weather as far as footwear is concerned. But in many cases, and I have a current listing as such, the hardwood floor has been polished and the carpets steam cleaned, the seller (and I) ask that buyer-agents and their clients either remove their shoes or wear booties to cover their footwear.
A nice basket with a supply of surgical booties, with a nice message is supplied at the entrance of the property.
I think for marketing/presentation purposes, it has a positive impact about how the property is perceived from the get-go....
But some have commented before that not eveyone's feet are clean and that booties no matter what should be worn!

Yes. Absolutely. And don't forget to have a bench or chair at the front door where you have placed the sign to remove shoes.
I always like it when I see the reason for visitors having to remove shoes e.g. " new carpet"
Risks: buyers slip while in socks instead of using optional shoe covers; buyers and agents resist stepping out on your gorgeous deck and appreciate the yard because they don't have any shoes on.

I always provide those, myself, if I have a seller who requests shoes off... I consider it an extra little touch in my service to my clients (and in a nice baket next to the front door no less).

I know here in Canada it's much more standard to take off your shoes when inside anyone's house. Anytime I've gone to see a house I've taken off my shoes voluntarily, I don't think shoe covers should be "required".

Yes I believe they should BUT if there are hardwood floors the shoe covers actually become dangerous to walk in. At my company, we can no longer have them out.
I know what you mean & I have said things to people as I'm picking things off my sock putting my shoes on in the foyer.

If it is their house rule, then yes, the SELLER should provide shoe covers but more importantly in my view, a seat on which people may do so. And, a floor mat to get several people in the door prior to removing footwear. I rarely wear socks in shoes or boots so I am quite reluctant to walk barefoot in a strangers home; especially during a hot summer!

It's a polite courtesy to do so. Out here you can get them for free from all the title companies... or get 100 for a $10 or less on Amazon...
I carry some in my car just in case. I've used them more at parties than anywhere else.

We've seen this often when new carpeting has been installed. In my opinion they should either provide shoe covers AND include a note in the showing remarks that advise wearing socks. Shoe cover often don't fit over boots and I am not walking barefoot on someone else's floor.

Shoe covers make more sense then booties. Usually my clients want to go out into the garden and it's pretty awkard to carry your shoes around.
1,751,129
If our listings require that, we provide shoe covers. If not, I don't blame buyers if they ignore the requirement. It's a courtesy for an minor inconvenience. I do carry spares in my trunk for when they don't.
