Interesting sets of answers. IMHO, it is misleading to the public if not registered for public knowledge. Lately, lots of signage from agents obscures or fails to note the brokerage name they work under; a very bad practice.

If you are a team with a firm license and a BIC (meaning one broker pays all other team members), yes. If you are a team and the individual agents are paid independently, no.

Nope not here but we have problems with the team names being way larger than the franchise or the company. They have to be the same size here in IL.

Not necessarily but the full name of an agent and the sponsoring broker must appear in the ad. Some make it so small and the team name so big, the public does not pay attention. It may come back to bite them!

I'm not sure.  I know the laws for advertising changed considerably in Cali last year.  Many were just using their team name and making it look like they were their own company.  This has changed and the Brokerage's name must be clearly displayed.

There are other rules too, but I don't do the team thing so I haven't paid much attention to them since the initial briefing from CAR Legal.

It would depend upon the structure.

I am not sure of this one in my area. If so, I feel like the revenue from that alone could improve the roads or reduce some taxes. Every day, I feel like, three new teams pop up.

The real answer is it almost does not matter here in the Land of Oz because so many do not follow the rules and those that don't -  when reported, nothing comes of it.  I agree with Norm that it is misleading and deceiving to the public.

The Department of Real Estate is looking more closely at teams since they are much more common now. Team names need not be separately registered. We are still required to include our Broker info on signs and advertising.

nope, but it is a rule in my MLS for teams to be identified in the MLS with team in the name so single agents can't show/print stats and it was really a team effort

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is cracking down on this. "A team name is a name used by one or more license holders sponsored by or associated with the same broker that is not the broker’s name or an assumed business name of the broker. Team names must end with the terms team or group. Team names cannot contain terms that imply that the team is offering brokerage services independent of the broker. Some prohibited terms are brokerage, company, and associates. The terms realty or real estate are acceptable as part of a team name as long as the team name ends with the terms team or group. Keep in mind that the ad must still contain the name of the broker. Before you use a team name in an ad, the broker must register the team name with TREC." Personally, I still think it is all very confusing to the public.
