Are we really just going to copy/paste other people's conversations from other groups and pretend that we're here to contribute?  Let's be better than this in the future, shall we?

"I don't know your cousin and how he/she is regarded by other professionals in the RE industry but I can tell you I am a full time professional and as stressful as buying/selling a home is I will only be your Realtor. You will never have to worry about how to act at family gatherings once this deal is over".

That's adorable. Why are you calling me?

I personally do not represent family members because I would like our personal relationship to stay intact. And with something as emotional and stressful as a real estate transaction, relationships can be tested. If you feel that your cousin can work with you dispassionately and professionally and that your relationship will stay the same afterwards, I wish you the best!

If it's "my cousin Vinny", that's great!  He gets the job done.  But his girlfriend's "clock is ticking", but man does she know her cars!

Suppose Cousin Realtor was not your cousin, but simply another realtor.  Would you still consider hiring him or her?  If not, why would you do them a favor that may well be to your detriment?

I know that it is very hard to not help a family member. Do you think that using a relative just because of family is more important to you than getting the best possible results by using an experienced agent?

I would say:
"It's always good to support family as long as it's not detrimental to your own well-being.  If you think your cousin is the best person for the job, great.  If you have doubts, you might want to interview a few other agents."

Good luck with that.... I never list properties owned by family members or close friends.... it ends up an emotional disaster because those two categories of clients have an emotional tie to the listing agent... again, good luck wih it...  call me when you've reached your limit....

Isn't it great to keep family in mind? You will have to make allowances some unpleasant but at least there is instant trust? The only other consideration would be to work with a professional that is bound to work ethics & results exclusively instead of an emotional-driven-connection. Emotions tend to create problems at times. Professionals know how to navigate this and stay more focused. It is wise to treat this as a business
