Facebook accounts are hacked all of the time. Delete the account or change the password. Report duplicate accounts.

So does that mean that somebody has created a Facebook page using your mom's information?

Not long after my mom and sister died in 2010, I got a Twitter follow from my sister. My sister had a Twitter account, but that wasn't it. I was shocked and deleted it. Now looking back I wish I hadn't. You may or may not agree but I feel like my sister was trying to contact me.

That's terrible!  I know a few of my friend's facebook accounts were hacked.

Yes, profiles are spoofed all the time.  Fake ccounts are created in names of the living and dead. Never click on the link sent to you, it can contain serious malware.   When inadvertently clicking a friend request from a pre-existing friend, my FB became so corrupt it had to be shut down.  No AV program could fix it.

I truly believe social media represents a return to the dark ages. While I use social media I am acutely aware of it's limitations.

Regrettably there is a whole segment of the population that lives or dies by the content on social media. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that want to take advantage of these people and they do so by stealing information, impersonating people and threatening others. All in the name of making a quick buck. Too bad.

I was just on a webinar the other day with DHS about tax fraud with using deceased and newly born person's SSNs.  Were these notifications using her likeness or just her name w/someone else's photo?

What is it with some people? I have received a TON of "friend" requests from people I don't know recently. I'm sure most are scammers looking for information and I have no time for that. Be sure to click to block them and I think you can report them too.

Hackers have no conscience, only an agenda. So sorry this has happened to you. You can report to admins so it can be taken down.

That must be quite disturbing. At first I was going to say that it probably was just a spammer who found her name and facebook information on a list somewhere (along with many others) and was just sending out mass emails to see if anyone responded. But then when I saw you said she never had a PC or used a cell phone, that doesn't sound like a good explanation.

That would be difficult to handle. I have a recently deceased grandfather, and that would creep me out. Sorry you are having to deal with that. There are definitely a slew of negative things that come along with the web and social media. -K

Hackers can copy anyone's info ( name and birthday) from a gravestone in cemetery or from old obituraies, etc and use that info to create fake accounts.

It is just plain stupit that people have time on their hands to do something like that. Report to Facebook and it will be deleted.
