I had my wallet lifted from my purse in NYC many years ago... it was total panic. Fortunately, whoever lifted it took the cash and threw it away... it was found and given back to me. Since I rarely carry much cash... I've always felt "good" that this particular thief didn't get much.

I have left it a home a couple of times and didn't realize it till I was 30 minutes away... not a good feeling either.

I have a back-up contingency for that! I keep a log of what is in my wallet & carry very little cash. I'm not known to lose things but, when going on vacation, you can't be too careful.

I remember when I was much younger and my wallet was stolen.  It was an inconvenience but nothing like the disaster of today.

Have had unfortunately worse situations, but than you realize that there are others who are in or had worse situations...than count your blessings that you're not dying or worse, and than move on the best you could.

Losing my wallet or cell phone would not bother me much at all, I have contingency plans and backups for that.

Yes.  I had my wallet lifted from my purse once in a grocery store. The loss of the wallet and the $500 cash and all the gift cards were not the biggest issue. The issue for me was the time involved in getting replacement cards, checks, etc.  Yes, this was about 10 years ago.  I no longer carry a checkbook.

This happened the day before I was to fly out of town for a family funeral.

I no longer bring a purse with me when I go grocery shopping.  I have my "man wallet" I put in my pocket.  Lessons were learned that day.

I went to the courtesy desk and the woman said one of the clerks brought it to them....thank the Lord.... and that clerk would not take any money for it....I wanted to give him $50 and he refused it... sooo nice.

The finder will have an address, front door keys, car keys and maybe even a S&W kept in the purse for personal protection.

Then comes all the ID stuff, credit cards and SS#, address book and that mobile device.

It is the one who prepared ahead who can keep a cool head in such a situation.

What's to think about? Losing a purse or wallet is more devastating than ever due to the potential for identity theft on top of the loss of credit cards, cash and the rest of whatever you typically carry.

Lost one a long time ago and a young boy had his Dad drive him to my home to return it. All intact I gave a reward of $40 to the Son. He was ecstatic, as was I. Also, found one along a sidewalk years ago. Ironically it belonged to a Broker I know. She told me the money was gone, $80, but she could not thank me enough for its return. My good deed for the day.

Recently, I put mine away when the cleaners were coming over.  I had forgotten I did that by the time I was running out the door, late to meet up for dinner.  Figured it out after a few minutes, but it was not a pleasant experience... especially since I carry my CCW license in there.

Richie,

Yes in NY City once.  I had airline tickets to Europe and passport.  We just went to the airline where they gave a new ticket, and then to passport office...It wasted half or our day there.  No panic, no desperation.  We also had Credit Card Insurance and all was cancelled instantly.  Ron had all the cash and his own Credit Cards.  I bought a new purse, and that was that.  Six months later, I received my purse in the mail with the credit cars and wallet...I gave the purse to Goodwill.  A

Saw a mom lose her small child at a water park in Florida... that trumps the wallet or purse that can be replaced. All the worst thoughts go through a parent's mind from that kind of loss Richie Alan Naggar ! Have witnessed a rear car door open up on a curve and a kid roll out that was not buckled. Luckily avoided hitting the small child that was scolded by the mother who once she saw he was alright, the care and concern turned to never going to let that happen again. I hope.
