stop talking to negative people....if everyone you speak with is negative, read books.... stop talking to all of them....once you're licensed, learn to make the phone ring and you'll show them all how a positive agent works...and produces.....

markets can be good or bad.  Good agents can succeed in any kind of market. Others are weeded out in a bad market.  This job isn't for everyone, but it's been the career I love for 25 years now.

Maybe you're not talking to the right people!

Marta, the two subjects are unrelated to each other.

Being a real estate agent requires adapting to the market, not being controlled by it. Everyone wants to sleep under a roof. How you put them there may require thinking for yourself.

My take is, don't do it. From what I've seen, you are about to lose $12,000.

I may be the differing voice here:  Real Estate can be extremely negative.  The majority of my business comes from the 4 Big Ds . . .

Divorce

Death

Debt

Downsizing

Dealing with these Ds on a daily basis can be quite a negative experience if you allow it to be.  Money usually brings out the worst in people and thos 4 Ds all involve money in one way or another.   I think it is wise to know what you are getting into an to understand it is not all rainbows and unicorns.

Don’t listen to the negative in any way.  Listen to tony Robbins, power of attraction.

According to your profile, you work at Nordstrom and if the real estate agents you are talking to are customers there, you may be mis-reading what they are saying.

They may be trying to tell you that selling real estate is a much different animal than selling at Nordie's and, while you may be the top sales agent there, it is tough to break into the real estate market as a newbie

Best advice I can give is to ask the next person who says negative things about your market WHY they said that. The answers may surprise you and it's a good idea to cultivate relationships with local REALTORS® while you are in school and begin to learn about your local market.

If it turns out that they are really just being negative, then Barbara Todaro gave you great advice.

Shut it down. The negative talk has always been and always will be. Real Estate is tough and if you don't have what it takes don't get your license.

Your market is what you make it. No more and no less!

There will always be people complaining about the market.  In a seller's market you have buyers agent complaining about how hard it is to find a house.  In a buyer's market, listing agents complain about homes sitting.  Right now in a changing market you have agents who have never seen anything other than our super hot seller's market freaking out because homes aren't selling in a week any more.

Focus on you and what you want and ignore the naysayers ... there are a few on every corner ... avoid them. 

You get negative talk from negatve people. A good real estate agent chooses the best part of the market on a given day and talks about that. Such as rates went up, but it spurred buyers to act now and a sharp increase in sales for December when it is usually as dead as the leaves on the ground

As others recommend, steer clear of the negativity. You are always going to find it but it never helps anyone!

90% of new agents won't be in the business in 2 years.  If you keep listening to the negative voices, you can save your education and licensing fees. if you can realize that the only market that matters is the one you create, through your sphere of influence and personal contacts, you may have the beginning of a career.  In the end, it's up to you. 

Those who speak negative, won't be in the industry long.
