I have only worked at local boutique brokerages. I had enough corporate BS in my previous work life. I just feel my opinion is heard at a smaller brokerage and it feels more like family.

Interesting question.  I have worked at both national franchises and at local independent brokers - both styles have a place and a purpose depending on agent goals.  New agents looking to learn the business might benefit from a franchise with structure, strong lead generation and technology systems.  Be prepared to make a time commitment to those systems.  A mature agent with established niche market may no longer wish to pay franchise fees or deal with "red-lighting" or an out-of-state corporate office "imposing" commission rates.  But the options now extend beyond boutique vs larger companies.  eXP for example with over 400,000 agents is both virtual and huge.  Virtual offices have definitely gained over brick and mortar in recent years.

I spent the first 17 years in the business in a boutique office.  I did well and never gave serious thought of leaving. Our company was then absorbed into KW and I'm learning things and gaining resources I didn't have before.  Both have benefits.

I'm a boutique style guy. I first jumped around between Berkshire Hathaway and Realty Executives, and now I'm at a small neighborhood brokerage. There's benefits to each, but being a new agent at the larger brokerages I found was very frustrating as they all seem to basically operate on a warm bodies approach. My broker is great now and I can actually get him on the phone.

I 'prefer' the brokerage that ACTUALLY empowers me to create my own business.

I 'prefer' the brokerage that brings something to the table, you know, like a brand name synonymous with real estate. No need to explain what REMAX is.

I 'prefer' a brokerage that gets out of the way instead of creating 'self-serving' obstacles.

I look for a brokerage that has a vision for what is coming and possesses the courage to prepare.

Today, ALL brokerages are looking to preserve the past and their sandbox. They have proven to be the obstacles of change and not the catalyst to change.

Makes no difference. It is take home pay that counts.

Never had a brokerage where leads are not handed out to relatives. You like sales meetings where they offer doughnuts or begels as inducement?
